There’s a saying that when one door closes, a window opens. This is exactly what happened recently to a small bakery in Lufkin, Texas called Confections.
As we all know, Pride Month is underway and Confections—to show that they stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ community—posted a snap of their Pride-themed cookies on their Facebook account. The message that comes with the post reads, “More LOVE. Less hate. Happy Pride to all our LGBTQ friends! All lovers of cookies and happiness are welcome here.”
Unfortunately, a customer didn’t take kindly to their Facebook post and canceled a large order of summer themed cookies. In disbelief that a rainbow heart cookie and a post reminding people to love more and hate less did the opposite and stirred up someone to send them a hateful message instead, the dejected owners took to Facebook to share the incident. Their post reads:
Today has been hard. Really hard.
We lost a significant amount of followers because of a rainbow heart cookie we posted.
We received a very hateful message on our business page canceling a large order (5dz) of summer themed cookies for tomorrow morning (that we just finished decorating) because of a rainbow heart cookie we posted.
My heart is heavy. Honestly I never thought a post that literally said more love less hate would result in this kind of backlash to a very small business that is struggling to stay afloat and spread a little cheer through baked goods.
So. If you love our cookies we will have an over abundance of them tomorrow. Hopefully tomorrow will be better
Sure enough, the next day and even the day after that, was better because customers came in droves. A long line formed in front of their store, they were inundated with phone calls and messages, and they received a high volume of orders. LGBTQ people and allies alike who rallied behind them purchased cookies for nursing homes and civil events and even made donations to local animal rescues.
Because of the outpouring of love and support, Confections posted a thank you note on their Facebook account. Check it out below:
One of their supporters named Andrea said, “Thank you for living Dr. MLK’s words: ‘Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that.'” While another supporter named Kimberly said, “Writing from Michigan to say that it’s not always pretty, but love will always prevail. Thank you for being and speaking your truth.”
Indeed, love always wins.
Happy Pride Month, y’all!
Let this be an example of how to conquer hate everywhere. The best way to get back at someone who does wrong, is to come back to the one who _got_ wronged, and to turn your back on the one who did wrong.
And look, love multiplied! A little flower thrown on the ground left seeds and grew a whole garden.
well reported in mainstream media. Such a great showing by Texas,
a State loathed by Progressives/Liberals/The Community because it’s supposedly chock full of Diversity-hating/Conservative/Christians! Go Lone Star!
So loved the people coming out to support their local bakery, now when most businesses have gone under because of the virus. Wish I lived there or near by I would have gotten a few dozens myself and handed them out to anyone walking by. My love to all of the LGBT+. Love is Love, Be safe, get vaccinated, spread the love and enjoy Pride Month 2021.
Love is patient.
Love is kind.
It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails.
When I looked your post it was -1. not sure why someone would give it a thumbs down. Unless it’s because it’s from 1st Corinthians 13: 4-8. And some people believe all Christians are bad. Gave it a thumbs up!!
That’s why I gave it a thumbs-up. There are parts of the bible I love and take to my considerable heart. I’ve always hoped, “those that come last, will come first,” it’s what keeps me respecting myself first, gotta earn it, not by being perfect, but being the best I can be under the circumstances.
That, is just such beautiful wisdom. I couldn’t agree more!
Would it have been any different if the bakery was serving “Pound Cake”?
A perfect example of mixing business with ideologies and not realizing that some people do not need to know where you stick your face when sticking a cookie between their lips!
They should post the name of the place that canceled the order, at the last minute, so our community and our supporters can boycott the haters.
At the end of the day it’s a fucking cookie and really who gives a shit how it’s decorated?
Fatdaddy:
Exclaimed as a wise man!
It is, always, the incidentals who try to make themselves noteworthy…when all they do is cause…blind eyes & deaf ears!
Truly, you write-the-truth! All it is about is generating revenues by exploiting whatever comes-to-mind…regardless of the consequences!
Wow, no wonder. America’s kids, across the board; mentally/spiritually are more and more fucked-up as time permits, the so-called adults to confuse/twist their minds and destroy their hearts. But, on the brighter side of that coin; there are those that are far more mature thinking than that of their older counter-parts.
