Great news!
Universal Pictures Content Group has acquired the international distribution rights for Lil Nas X’s feature documentary called Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero.
“We instantly fell in love with Lil Nas X and his honest and entertaining film. Telling captivating and relevant stories is at the heart of all our documentaries, and we knew straightaway that we wanted to bring this to a global audience,” said Helen Parker, EVP at Universal Pictures Content Group.
Directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Carlos López Estrada (known for Billie Eilish: When the Party’s Over) and filmmaker Zac Manuel, the documentary offers a glimpse at the Grammy-winning artist’s inaugural world tour.
“We were struck by the humanity of an artist who, while inspiring so many to accept their queer identities, is still learning to fully embrace his own,” filmmakers Estrada and Manuel said in a statement. “A lot of people think Montero has it all figured out, but behind the spectacle is a person searching for the same things as so many of his fans. He’s searching for acceptance from his family and the confidence to be the person he wants to be — to embrace his queer identity in all ways feminine, masculine and everything outside of binary definitions. Yet, there he is every night, onstage, giving himself fully to thousands. This bravery is his gift to the world, and what makes Montero Lamar Hill, Lil Nas X.”
The film’s logline reads:
The diaristic film is a remarkably intimate portrait of a musician navigating identity, family, expectations and acceptance, all while reflecting on his place within the legacy of Black, queer performers.
Shot over the course of 60 days with unparalleled access, the film follows Montero Hill, aka Lil Nas X, on an emotional odyssey through the creation and performance of the critically acclaimed ‘Long Live Montero’ show.
Variety describes the documentary as “rambunctious and at times exhilarating backstage concert movie.” They added that “Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero channels the grandeur of what it means to put your dreams out there, for everyone to see.”

It was great in the trailer when he declared “I’m gonna teach my nephews not to be homophobic.” He then blindsides them in the car with “Don’t be homophobic” and one nephew responds with a muffled “OK” and immediately goes back to his game, not motivated to engage in any conversation. The kid’s reaction showed he wasn’t homophobic, but was being put in a position as though he was guilty of being so. Nas is a classic example of militant LGBTQ+ people who don’t understand why they get pushback … in amounts growing daily even by those already in their… Read more »
Yeah, but isn’t it funny, Italians are ‘still’ declaring they’re Italian; Irish the same thing, just sayin’, must be trauma, from being ostracized.
Blacks still tout that they are Beautiful, too!
Whites declare that they are Right, too!
Gays tout that they are Great – here and queer!
Female declare equality and superiority!
Liberals declare Enlightenment!
Conservatives declare Morality and Law & Order!
Priests declare Salvation while they practice another kind of salvation upon
their knees!
Today, everyone touts who they are; where they came from; what they
believe; and –
ultimately what is good and what isn’t
and
who deserves it all…accordingly!
. . . It’s deeper than that, it’s about declaring your HUMANITY.
The Irish were declared apes, etc., the Italians weren’t excepted at first either, now annexed into “white America” but ‘still’ they feel the need . . . to extole such.
In this case, declaration of “we exist, love who loves ‘us’, the right to.”
Humanity is a Society Bent –
not
Anthropological Truth.
Humanity is a perception and a concept –
not
pre-determined or innate.
Time out, Dude. Some of my family’s ancestors were Italian and some were Irish and others German. The three came to this country in the early 1900s seeking a better life … they wanted to be “Americans” (to live, learn, work, and raise families in the USA.”) They didn’t ask schools or government to print documents in their languages or to teach their kids in their languages. They learned to speak English, got educated, got jobs. One established elementary and middle schools, sending their kids to the local high schools because they had taught them how to be ready to… Read more »
Lmao, it’s too, much, I didn’t even need to read all of that, whatever rant you just went on.
I lived in NYC in time, where the Italians didn’t consider themselves “white” is what I ‘m saying “DUDE!” That was the NYC culture at that time.
I tend to watch the PBS ch’s, I’m quite aware of the hist., of the Irish and the propaganda they faced, as “drunkards and bar/brawlers”. . . AGAIN, according to hist., not me, see.
That’s not ‘my’ opinion, it’s hist, of whereof I speak. I guess that’s why hist is under attack, (eyeroll).
“Inconsequentiality”
taken
to the
“nth” degree!
“Par Excellence”!
“Banality” in all of its splendor!
Just amazing and unfortunate dude can’t sing a note!!!
It is the reality of the continuing “Dumbing” of America and Democracy – in general!
AGREED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is Lil Nas still practicing Satanism? We shouldn’t be celebrating that. As for his LBGTQ+ support he should not bait his nephews into the negative aspects to make brownie point. This appears staged, set up in order to stir the pot and make look like he is a victim. Shame really.
Welcome to Media “Manipulation”!
Glad you and Hunter0500 brought it to the surface.
Another malignant narcissist
Agreed. A “Global Release” about his sexuality?? Anyone who thinks the Globe needs or wants to know about their sexuality or “unique” characteristics needs professional help. The “documentary” is fuel because he’s no longer the Media/Hollywood Wonder/Darling he was a few years ago and has sensed the fire of his “Fifteen Minutes of Fame” is fading.
Yes –
The “Andy Warhol 15 Minutes Of Fame” has burned out!
So
it is time for Phase 2 –
