Further, a professor of computer science at University of South Carolina named Dr. Biplav Srtivastava, developed a computer model alongside with his team that measures the effectiveness of wearing masks during the COVID-19 pandemic. The data-driven tool can show us how many infections and deaths have been avoided in the U.S. by counties where there is a higher level of adherence to mask-wearing. In contrast, it can show us also how many infections and deaths a county could have prevented had the people been regularly wearing masks.
