Anyone can fall in love with anyone.
Netflix recently launched a groundbreaking new series that promises to captivate audiences and break barriers. The Boyfriend, Netflix’s new gay dating show, premiered on Tuesday, July 9, and marks Japan’s first-ever same-sex reality dating TV show.
The Boyfriend follows nine men as they embark on a month-long journey of love, friendship, and self-discovery. These contestants will live together in a beach house affectionately dubbed the Green Room and operate a coffee truck. The setting for this exciting venture is Tateyama, a picturesque city in Chiba Prefecture, known for its stunning beaches and close proximity to Tokyo.
The creation of a gay dating show in Japan is a significant milestone, as the country continues to progress on LGBTQ+ rights, despite cultural challenges that many gay men face in coming out and living authentically. The show’s existence is a testament to the progress being made and the importance of visibility and representation in media.
Starting on July 9, new episodes of The Boyfriend will be released every Tuesday over four weeks until the finale. Batch 1 will be available on July 9 (Episodes 1-3), followed by Batch 2 on July 16 (Episodes 4-6), Batch 3 on July 23 (Episodes 7-8), and the final Batch 4 on July 30 (Episodes 9-10).
Don’t miss it!

Has the USA ever had a gay dating show? Japan needs to encourage gay sex, as they have a woman shortage.
