Good Monday everyone. Last week, I was interviewed by Global Dating Insights (GDI) reporter Dominic Whitlock about combatting sexual racism.
If GDI is familiar to you, it’s because they’ve been around since 2013 and they’re the leading source of news, information and analysis for the online dating industry. Their site has over 30,000 unique monthly visitors and they are being read in more than 100 countries today.
During this interview, I’ve talked about how Adam4Adam is helping combat sexual racism, a problem which—as we are all aware of—is rife within the LGBTQ dating community.
In accordance with this, we also discussed ‘NiceAF,’ A4A’s collaborative campaign launched this Pride Month along with other gay dating apps and Building Healthy Online Communities (BHOC). BHOC is an association of public health leaders and gay dating website and app owners who are working together to support HIV and STI prevention online. Anyway, NiceAF is a campaign promoting nicer, kinder interactions online between dating app users.
I’ve also talked about how Adam4Adam celebrated Pride Month during this lockdown and how we’d come together as a community and raised funds for the Black Lives Matter movement. You know, that time when we raised together and donated $10,000 to the National Black Justice Coalition (NBJC)—an organization dedicated to the empowerment of Black lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and same gender loving (LGBTQ/SGL) people, including people living with HIV/AIDS.
Having said all that, we’d like to thank GDI and Mr. Dominic Whitlock for having us. It was a huge honor to be invited on GDI and it was a pleasure talking about what Adam4Adam has been up to this year.
Without further ado, we’d like to share with you the aforementioned GDI podcast episode titled, “Adam4Adam’s COO Discusses Campaign Combating Sexual Racism.”
You can listen to the episode on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and SoundCloud.
Happy listening!
Why does Adam4Adam continue to have an ethnicity filter, while other dating websites and hookup apps have removed this racism-enabling feature? Removing the ethnicity question and filter is a simple, effective, unilateral move that A4A could make TODAY to confront racism in the LGBT community.
if you listened to the interview you would know why we didn’t remove it.
“black” and “latino” are the 2 most popular filters on Adam4Adam.
We’re not gonna remove them.
These filters for us are probably open of the reasons why 53% of our users are non-white.
Wow!…that’s amazing I had NO idea that many A4A users(53%)are non white?!..good for A4A!!!
I wish your porn film selection reflected that kind of diversity as well..;-))
Andre
You can search the kind of porn you want to see 🙂
I appreciate that over half (approximately 53%) of users are black or considers themselves of the Latino ethnicity. I also appreciate the newer features on here.
thanks man!
Why have age, weight, or photos??? All of those lead to discrimination!
It’ll be so refreshing when corporate spin doctors master truth-telling…. A4A certainly does tolerate open expressions of racism, bigotry, and hatred. Within the past year, I’ve been referred to as a “nigger” TWICE, officially reported both incidents – and both accounts remained open and unsuspended…. Interestingly, two years ago, when I reported an account of a supposed ‘eighteen-year-old’, who admitted being sixteen, MY account was suspended for almost a week – until I went to Facebook.!! Subsequently, my account restored in forty-five minutes…. Some embarrassingly lame explanation was proffered; the real A4A ethos was unveiled, though.
we ban accounts every day.
and kids are not allowed on a4a, that’s for sure.
I’ve run into two supposed 14 year olds that were parading as 18 but were actually late 20s people who were looking to ensnare men in underage situations. I believe one of them worked with a man about 20 miles from me and he was ruined. I ran into a situation again the other day that I thought was the same thing.
simply report them.
we ban them instantly.
A general disclaimer, along the lines of A4A’s Terms & Conditions, is not an offer to effect genuine change regarding how A4A administers its T&Cs, Dave…. I have the emails that detail each of the three incidents, and I am certain that your system can recover the exchanges between the two epithet-spewing account-holders, the child, and me. If these cases are reviewed, you can substantiate that I was a gentleman, refused the two racists politely and gently, and was deemed a “nigger” for such rejection. Benign replies, such as yours, are emblematic of why situations like mine persist…. The “child”… Read more »
Hi Eric, your account was probably suspended by mistake, we dont suspend accounts that reports problems, we do the contrary, we suspend accounts that are problematic.
I am not aware of this particular situation, but our support team is working 24h a day to manage cases like these.
You can forward me these messages at [email protected] and I’ll check them with my team.
As for the child, many underage people try to create account on A4A, but my team always suspend and ask for ID if they have a doubt about age.
Dave
Years ago, there was a Latin man whom I rebuffed, who then proceeded to call me a nigger, his profile was promptly deleted/banned. More recently, another man on here was looking for a “black boy as a servant/slave” he was made to rephrase his profile, so they have/do handle the business of racism as long as you bring it to their attention.
I am a child of The Civil Rights Movement and learned very early in life that the squeaky wheel gets the oil, Lamar…. As I very clearly wrote in my initial comment, I brought both situations of epithet-spewing to A4A management’s attention; no action was taken. One account is still active; I will find the second offender when I finish this reply to you. I have received a more satisfactory and conciliatory reply from Dave at A4A and am compiling the Ticket Numbers from my complaints, the users’ names, the users’ ID, and the offensive verbiage and will forward everything… Read more »
Yep, I rode that cloud into this world myself, as I was conceived in 60′ as an Aquarian; know all about it, bro, sometimes you have to very persistent, but who would know that, like you and I and ‘we’ being that hist., is repeating itself, again. Keep your head up!
I’ll take this notion of ‘sexual racism’ seriously when start to address lookism in the LGBTQ community. If you notice, there are only beautiful, buff guys in the pictures above — what about normal guys? I don’t even hang out in the LGBTQ community anymore because the only way to hang out with another guy who likes guys is to be of the same general body shape and attractiveness level. I’m not even talking about ‘sexual’ lookism — simply being friends with a guy of a different body shape and attractiveness level is so taboo in the LGBTQ community that… Read more »
A lot like being in the “Mean Girls” movie/high school, ‘still’ so very childish.
now it’s sexual racism, a reason for more manufactured outrage.
entertaining to watch all of you in action, responding as trained monkeys when the racism (or whichever trending -ism) bell is rung
go live happily. not as the perpetual victim but instead find enough confidence and self-esteem to not give a fuck about wat someone thinks of you, regardless.
I only care/appose to racism as it pertains to civil-rights, law, housing, politics. . . i.e., “pursuit of happiness.” I think ‘if’ people of color are/would be complaining about not being sexed/loved by “white people” that’s something you must get-over/overcome, get-past. . . it really is, at this point in time, mostly antiquated. It’s too much the slave-mentality, stop being so obsessed with those whom hate/use your flesh, hell, much of the time they don’t even love themselves or anybody else, so you’re just the tool. They’ll have you dick-’em-down and call you a nigger behind your back (exploitation). This,… Read more »
cuz you know, doing nothing ALWAYS helps. and all the victims are just crazy and oversensitive… “that girl deserved to get raped, cause y’know she wasn’t wear a hijab and there was some exposed skin on her ankle”
Oh, my. Is it virtue signalling time again already? You realize, of course, it is a fool’s errand to tell people what their preferences should be, don’t you? I’d really like to harangue the author more but there is a white guy trying to get into my pants and I have to go for now. Y’all have fun at the zoo!
That’s what Europeanism is about, “telling people what their preferences should be”, what you should want to look like ‘us’ how you should worship, what you should worship ‘us’ as “God is white” like ‘us’. . . yeah, your right, “fool’s errand” but not like you think, LMAO!!!!!!
I just think people should get over the mind-tricks, as it’s been hellishly pernicious, insidious, soul-disrupting, YIKES!!!!
Why does everything come down to racism? just because i may not be sexually interested in a certain ethnicity is that necessarily racist.? if i am not interested in a guy or type (fat, skinny, big dick, little dick, cd, pnp, short, tall) doesn’t mean i hate this group i just an not sexually turned on by them. is it sexist because i want a man over a woman?
we all have preferences, it does not make us treachery.
Wanting a man instead of a woman is misogyny and toxic masculinity. (This is basically what I’ve seen stated on a4a and other apps by people….) Sleep with who you want, be who you want, but don’t expect everyone who you want to want you. Everyone needs to take responsibility for being a grown up. Unfortuantely, there is no longer a requirement to grow up in our society.
Everything does not come down to racism as you contend, Mark…. If you read my post, I was very clearly called a “nigger” by two users I wasn’t interested in and stated such, reported each incident, and absolutely nothing was done; the accounts remain open to this very day. However, when I reported a child, who admitted he was sixteen but posing as an eighteen year old, MY account was suspended (the ‘child’ was more than likely a cop…). Supposedly, the suspension was a ‘mistake’ that took five days to correct – and that only happened after I posted on… Read more »
I’m not sure I understand what “sexual racism” is. Often times, I see users list their preferences and sometimes, these sound racist, but preference is just that — preference. My dick isn’t going to get hard if I’m not visually attracted to it. Men are visual creatures. Science and data supports this. And all the hand wringing, women’s rights, and social justice warriors are not going to change what my dick prefers. However, app users on A4A can express their preferences without sounding like racist pricks. Instead of listing what you don’t like, why not list what you like? And… Read more »
It matters not to me, I’m really preferring bi-men to safely play, regardless of color. Strangely enough, they’re less racist, judgmental, more down to earth, especially those that are fathers.
Gay men have, largely, lost their luster.
I wonder if it’s because they stopped being men?
. . . I’m sure I don’t really know, just sick and tired of immaturity among gay men frequently among my age group. Perpetual immaturity is just not attractive to me, a man’s mental-space is most important to someone like me, as it speaks volumes. I’m too mature myself to just be drawn to one solely on just the physical being, although, it does indeed get my attention. I’m just really very attracted to those that have depth of character, I like grey-hair, character-lines, dad-bodies, lol, I’ve matured enough to look deeper.
i like it, its interesting.
