COVID-19 cases continue to rise around the world and authorities are all emphasizing the importance of social distancing to stem the increase of infected people. Because of this, several public events have either been canceled or postponed.
The latest delay is Birmingham Pride in the United Kingdom, which was supposed to be held on May 23 and 24 and headlined by Kelly Rowland and Cheryl. The event has now been moved to September.
The announcement was made on the Birmingham Pride Festival Instagram page, citing the “worldwide Coronavirus Pandemic” as the cause.
“We very much hope that the situation in the UK will have improved enormously later into the summer months, so that we can go ahead with one of the most important dates in the LGBTQ calendar – we will do whatever it takes,” they promise in the post caption.

Due to the concerns of COVID-19, CSW will postpone all events related to the 50th Anniversary of LA Pride that were scheduled for June 2020. Organizers are assessing the situation. More information to be provided around the postponement as details become available.

Given how “pride” reinforces negative stereotypes about gays more than anything, this is a good thing.
Pride events are totally equal with other events. They’re all being rescheduled. Just about everything on the planet that was planned to happen in the next few/several months is being rescheduled. Even the Olympics. The virus, it seems, is “blind” when it comes to discrimination.
All-The-Cancellations-Prove…
when you are ill, dying or dead, sexual pride becomes mundane and dismissive! There is nothing to be proud of when a gathering may invoke the spread of a Virus…regardless of name: its function remains the same and the results vary.
Give The Pride Parades a rest as they are no longer elements of pride just a persistent reminder that excess and misplaced conceit becomes the nemesis of those who participate…as it was as it remains for War.
A Pandemic is a world-wide War, and an Epidemic is a large-scale War within a given AREA.
I’m sure pride parades has it’s perks and have a significant impact on gay communities as well as a political agenda. I never and have no desire to attend one. I’m sure they will be rescheduled like most other events. I was recently reading about the Andrew Gillum ordeal in Florida and the nasty, discriminatory remarks from people who commented were alarming. Gee wiz, we have a ways to go in regard to gay acceptance. The infidelity part was hit hard but the bisexual/gay remarks were very disturbing. So hopefully they will reschedule the gay pride events.
