The gay men on X have finally tackled the most urgent crisis facing modern relationships: the total lack of good romantic words for gay sex. A single viral post on X recently blew open the bedroom door on a struggle we’ve all quietly endured while trying to sound attractive under the sheets. The post reads, “We need a word that’s more romantic than “fucking” but less corny than ‘making love,’ and we need it NOW.” Later, when his post had gone viral, the man added: “OK this was not supposed to go outside my horny little gay circle. I AM SORRY, and I did not mean anything against heterosexual relationships. I think a man telling a woman he wants to make love to her is wonderful! I just can’t say that to a man without feeling crazy IDK!”

Anyway, the replies quickly turned into a comedy show. One straight ally let everyone know this isn’t just a gay dilemma; he said, “As a hetero, I’m with you, making love sounds corny AF.” Apparently, this linguistic crisis has already crossed orientation lines.
In addition, another commenter suggested, “There’s an Irish term ‘riding’ which can take on a romantic edge, I guess. You can also call a sexy person ‘a ride’ – a gender-neutral term for a very fuckable person.”
Further, one commenter summed up the problem perfectly. “English failed us completely on this one. every option is either clinical, crude, or something a Hallmark movie would say.” Now, that’s hard to argue with.
Of course, not everyone thought a new phrase was necessary, like this guy who said, “If you find the phrase ‘making love’ too corny, then you are not really in love, and you have to keep using ‘fucking’ until you level up. I’m sorry, that’s just the rules.”

On the other hand, someone reminded the Twitterverse: “‘The joy of the marriage bed’ / Or, for those copulating outside of marriage, ‘Inviting venereal disease.’” Nothing gets a guy into the mood quite like a Puritan guilt trip from 1642.
Meanwhile, someone replied, “‘Shagging’ (Brit. colloquial and to an extent here in Australia) feels too goofy, ‘dogging’ which kinda refers to outdoor stuff specifically also feels completely crass, as does the ‘getting a root’ or ‘rooting’ which is VERY Aussie; ‘hooking up’ differs contextually.” Now that sounds less like seduction and more like a cartoon sound effect.
Lastly, someone pointed out, “I thought that’s what ‘Netflix and Chill’ was invented for…?” Sure, if you want your romantic life to sound like a middle school sleepover from 2015.
At the end of the day, maybe the struggle to find the right word is half the fun.
Having said all that, what about you, Adam4Adam blog readers? What’s your go-to word when the mood strikes, or do you just improvise and hope for the best? Moreover, what’s the single worst term you’ve ever heard someone use in the heat of the moment? Comment down below!

I think this is totally goofy. Fuck and Suck are very good words.
