Hey, guys! Here is a first look at Matt Bomer’s upcoming miniseries with Jonathan Bailey:

Titled Fellow Travelers, the series is set in the ’50s at the height of McCarthyism.

Just a quick background, McCarthyism “is the term describing a period of intense anti-Communist suspicion in the United States which began during the start of the Cold War, that lasted roughly from the late 1940s to the mid to late 1950s.” Also known as the Second Red Scare, McCarthyism got its name from Republican Senator Joseph McCarthy, of Wisconsin, who claimed in his 1950 speech that hundreds of communists had infiltrated the government.

“Lavender scare” would then ensue. This term refers to “a moral panic” about gay people in the United States government that resulted in the mass firing from government service of everyone who was suspected to be gay.

Check out below the official blurb of the series:

The brand-new drama series based on the novel by Thomas Mallon, Fellow Travelers is an epic love story and political thriller, chronicling the romance of two very different men who meet in McCarthy-era Washington. Hawkins Fuller, played by Matt Bomer, maintains a financially rewarding, behind-the scenes career in politics. Hawkins avoids emotional entanglements – until he meets Tim Laughlin, played by Jonathan Bailey, a young man brimming with idealism and religious faith. Over the course of four decades, follow five main characters as they cross paths through the Vietnam War protests of the 1960s, the drug-fueled disco hedonism of the 1970s, and the AIDS crisis of the 1980s, while facing obstacles in the world and in themselves.

Meanwhile, Jonathan Bailey is best known for his role as Lord Anthony Bridgerton in the Bridgerton series. The 35-year-old English actor is openly gay.

Fellow Travelers, which is set to debut on Showtime this fall, stars Andy Milne, Jane Moffat, Erin Neufer, and Mike Taylor to name a few. You can watch it via the Paramount+ app as well.
