It’s the 1st day of June, guys, which means we’re almost halfway through the year, wow! But more importantly, today is the beginning of Pride Month.
We celebrate Pride Month annually in June to highlight “years of struggle for civil rights and the ongoing pursuit of equal justice under the law for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer community, as well as the accomplishments of LGBTQ individuals.”
But why celebrate it in the month of June? It is to commemorate as well the riot that occurred in June 1969 in New York City’s Greenwich Village, at the Stonewall Inn as this event became a significant catalyst for the gay rights movement not only in the United States but also around the world. Read more about it here.
President Joe Biden, by the way, officially declared June “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, And Intersex Pride Month, 2022.” Check it here.
Having said all that, how do you celebrate Pride Month, guys? Below are some ideas, the first three I do regularly even if it’s not Pride Month:
- Watch some LGBTQ movies.
- Read a book or two.
- Make a Pride playlist and listen to your favorite LGBTQ-themed songs.
- Attend a Pride parade, an event, or even a dance party. Whether you are from Tokyo or Toronto, you are bound to find an event for you as this helpful list includes LGBTQ+ Pride events and celebrations not just throughout North America but the world.
- We can give back to our community by volunteering or donating to a charity organization or foundation like The Trevor Project or the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. Or you can search for one using the Charity Navigator.

A month where LGTBQ+ individuals celebrate the idea that we’re united when in clear reality we’re not. (See the intolerant posts on A4A on a regular basis.) And (BONUS!), during the month we alienate “us” from the non-LGTBQ+ people on the planet by pushing LGTBQ+ Stereotype(s). I get Stonewall; celebrate the individuals who stuck out their necks, crying out for “equality”. But don’t brush those under the rug those who also furthered the cause by choosing and alternate path: being respected, solid, quieter, contributing members of society. These individuals taught (and continue to teach) people that LGTBQ+ individuals were just… Read more »
Agreed! The perception is prospered that we are all a “United Community” when it is clearly obvious, we are not! It’s the usual “Liberal Utopianism” that all is equal and consensual. The “Gay Community” no more exists – defacto – than “The Heterosexual Community” exists It seems each and every microcosm gets its month of recognition and when the month ends, so does the recognition. It generates publicity and revenue. On and on goes “Capitalism” by throes who stand to make the most money and unfortunate, too many buy into it. Remember: there are no bigger fools than those who… Read more »
Lots of instructions of how to spend pride month. I really did need to be told to “read a book or two”. How about having a conversation with someone not of your generation. You talk about the Stonewall riots. How about suggesting a conversation with someone who was alive then? A conversation about how different things are now? Naw, just rent a couple movies.
Apparent you missed the part that said “some ideas”
For the last five (5) years we have been under the most insidious, violent, vicious and malicious attacks from the GOP party, the GOP packed Supreme court and the lower courts as well, and from anti LGBQT governors, senators and communities. More than ever, we MUST resist, fight, advocate, unite and make our voices heard through our VOTE. There is so much at stake and we are living through dangerous and unprecedent times.
Yeah because life will be so much better for everyone under Neo-Marxism with the donkey party.
I celebrate the ‘freedom’ of being gay; to just simply be me as a sexual being, without all of the unnecessary, toxic mess. When someone asks if I’m gay, I can look them straight in the eye unapologetically, and emphatically say yes without any in trepidation whatsoever. And at my height, I can look right down my nose at them the whole time, proudly.
Why would I want a prostate plug?
