By spending 17 consecutive weeks at the top spot, Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” featuring Billy Ray Cyrus now officially holds the longest unbroken run at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. According to Billboard, this feat is a first in their 60-year old history.
“Old Town Road” eclipsed the previous record of Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s “One Sweet Day” which had stayed at the number one spot for 16 weeks way back in 1995-96. Since then, only Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito,” which features Justin Bieber, had come so close to toppling “One Sweet Day” in 2017. “Despacito” ended up sharing the aforementioned Hot 100 Chart Record with “One Sweet Day.”
Lil Nas X took to Twitter to thank his fans for helping his song set a new record. He said, “I’m on the toilet right now, but I want to say thank you to every single person who has made this moment possible for me. We just broke the record for the longest-running No. 1 song of all-time.” He then played “Old Town Road” in the background and added, “Let’s go!”

Meanwhile, Mariah Carey sent Lil Nas X a congratulatory message on Instagram saying, “Sending love & congrats to @LilNasX on breaking one of the longest running records in music history! We’ve been blessed to hold this record with a song that means a great deal to @BoyzIIMen and myself and has touched so many. Keep living your best life! ❤” The short message came with an image of Carey literally passing a torch to the black gay country rapper.
Apart from the remix with Billy Ray Cyrus, “Old Town Road” has other official remixes with Diplo, Young Thug and Mason Ramsey, and RM of boyband BTS.
Without further ado, here is “Old Town Road” with Billy Ray Cyrus.
Happy viewing!
Let’s see…music has changed. Mariah & BTM did it by themselves in a pre-digital music age where there wasn’t a ton of remixes. Still queen of the chart IMO!! At this rate still the #1 female solo artist and song of all time. A true legend… keep it up girl!!
same for me… I didn’t even know the song from Lil Nas X until last week.
I must say Mariah is the only queen and with all that she is and have for all these years. Hands down she is the queen. Where there is a Queen a King is close by. Lil Nas X just happen to be that King. You have to give it up to the man, He did it and I am happy for him just as I would be for anyone else.
AGREED !
