What’s on your playlist? And would you say it’s awkward, funny, or hot?

We’ve all been there: the mood is set, clothes are flying off, worse, we’re about to climax and suddenly—out of nowhere—the most random background noise barges into the moment like an uninvited guest. From cheesy pop songs to kids’ music to even cooking podcasts, gay men online recently shared their funniest experiences when asked, “What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever accidentally had playing in the background during sex?”

The answers are as chaotic as they are hilarious, proving that sometimes, the soundtrack of our sex lives is far from sultry.

One guy, for example, revealed how his hookup session suddenly turned into a nostalgic throwback. “The Pokémon theme song came up on my shuffle once. The full version.” Imagine being mid-thrust when Billy Crawford starts belting out, “I wanna be the very best.” Talk about having to “catch ‘em all.” It might not kill the mood entirely, but it’s definitely a reminder that your playlist deserves a little more curating.

Another gay man shared a truly cursed experience that’s both funny and painful to imagine. “Baby Shark started playing and we just let it play and pass cause we didn’t want to stop but then it just started fucking looping.” Nothing says endurance like ignoring “doo doo doo doo doo doo” for minutes on end while trying to stay focused. This is the kind of story you laugh about later, but in the moment, you’re probably praying for mercy.

Then, there are those songs that just feel like the wrong vibe altogether. “I remember losing my virginity and Party in the USA coming on.” Miley might be uplifting for a road trip, but when it’s your very first time, you probably want something sexier than “hands up, they’re playing my song.” Still, it’s a memory that sticks—maybe even makes it more unforgettable.

Meanwhile, one guy experienced a perfectly timed case of art imitating life. “We were watching Sex Education and somehow, I ended up giving him a blow job. Then all of a sudden there was this moment when one of the main characters in the series was saying something like ‘he suddenly kissed me and then he gave me A BLOW JOB!!’

Well, try giving someone a blow job while laughing we both found it quite hilarious. Funny coincidence.” That’s the beauty of sex in real life—it’s rarely as serious or “perfectly lit” as porn. Sometimes, it’s messy, awkward, and laugh-out-loud funny.

However, not everyone is a fan of background noise during sex, though, like this one guy who shared, “I don’t play music, too distracting.” For some men, silence (or just the sound of each other) is way sexier than competing with a Spotify playlist or TV dialogue. It’s a good reminder that mood-setting is highly personal—what’s hot to one person might feel like chaos to another.

Of course, gamers had their moment in the responses, too. One gay man said, “Rivers in the Desert by Persona 5. Top was inside of me and stopped, asking me ‘are you playing videogame music while I’m fucking you?’” If you’re deep in the zone, maybe a soundtrack boss battle can hype you up—but for others, it’s an instant dealbreaker. At least the top asked instead of pulling out immediately.

Finally, one guy’s story takes the cake for being both funny and awkwardly timed. He shared, “Had a cooking podcast going. Suddenly, I hear, ‘Now, make sure your meat is well-rested.’ I looked around like, ‘Are we talking about me or the steak?’” That’s the kind of line you can’t un-hear, and it’s enough to make anyone laugh mid-session. At least it wasn’t followed up with “don’t forget to baste generously.”

Sex is supposed to be hot, yes, but it’s also deeply human. And humans? We live with distractions—phones, playlists, TVs, podcasts. Sometimes, the background makes the moment more ridiculous than erotic, but those are the stories we remember most.

Having said all that, what about you, Adam4Adam blog readers? Have you ever had the mood totally derailed—or hilariously enhanced—by a random song, TV show, or podcast during sex?
