When it comes to sex, everyone has their personal preferences — things that turn them on, and things that immediately kill the vibe. But what happens when your partner shows up with a toy, outfit, or accessory that makes you go, “Uh… absolutely not”?
One gay man online recently sparked this conversation after asking: “What sex accessories would you say are the biggest turn off?” He shared his own hard limit, writing: “I’m going to have to go with sounding rods hands down. It’s totally OK if you’re into them but the idea of putting a metal rod in my urethra scares the hell out of me.”
This honest (and kind of hilarious) confession opened the floodgates for other gay men to share their biggest bedroom turn offs — and the answers were wildly relatable.
So what sex accessories do gay men hate the most? Here’s what they said:
“Meth,” one guy replied. Some users were quick to say their biggest turn-off wasn’t a sex toy — it was drug use during sex, especially meth. No kink shaming here, but for many, meth is an instant dealbreaker.
In addition, several guys mentioned that penis piercings are a hard pass. “Not really an accessory but any dick piercings.” The idea of metal anywhere near delicate parts made some cringe — and for others, it’s simply not visually appealing.
Meanwhile, although some men are into lingerie play, others said seeing a man in women’s underwear instantly kills the mood for them. “Women’s underwear.” It’s a reminder that not every kink is for everyone—and that’s perfectly okay.
Then there’s “Those creepy leather dog masks.” Pup play isn’t for everyone. A few admitted that leather dog masks feel more awkward than arousing — making them a top turn-off.
Some turn-offs are instant, no matter how open-minded we try to be. For one gay man, it’s all about the accessories—or, in this case, having too many of them: “Strings, thongs, etc. I know people find them attractive, but to each his own… Also piercings on the penis… I cringe so hard at the thought of the process of getting them that I can’t even distract my mind when I see them on others….” Clearly, what’s sexy to one guy can be a total deal-breaker for another, especially when it comes to what’s worn—or pierced—down below.
When it comes to personal turn-offs, sometimes it’s about certain kinks that just don’t click. One gay man said, “For me personally I absolutely hate cock cages.” Some love them, some hate them. Cock cages showed up more than once in the responses — with a few guys admitting the idea makes them feel anxious or turned off.
Lastly, others shared a much simpler view on what really matters to them in a partner. One guy put it beautifully: “For me it’s pretty much everything. I just need the man.” And then there are the minimalists — guys who don’t care for toys, gear, or costumes at all. Just a man, naked, is enough.
What about you, Adam4Adam blog readers? What’s your biggest sex accessory turn-off? Is there a sex toy, outfit, or kink that instantly kills the mood for you? Or do you believe everything’s fair game in the bedroom as long as both partners are into it? Share your thoughts and experiences in the comments section down below!
I’m not a fan of jock straps that cover the dick and balls. I like to see them flop or just see them. Also excessive leather and chains. I don’t see the point.
Humanity & The Media?
STDs & Hemorrhoids?
LOL !!! LOL !!! LOL !!!
All of them.
Raw naked flesh is all I like. Any more is superfluous.
Don’t like tattoos or piercings either.
Ahhh – someone who is just like me. Yes – 2 naked bodies going at it, period. No toys, no clothes, no tattoos or piercings either. Just condoms when called for.
I’m good with tattoos that enhance a guy, smaller ones with concise messages. But I see pictures of great looking guys slathered in ink or with random, unrelated markings every which way and think “Dude, you ruined a great thing!”
Their bodies, of course, and sure other guys like the “art”.
I agree with you when people have entire body parts covered.
Or even tattoos on their face or head.
Piercings
The sexual accessory that does nothing for me is leather. To me, leather looks hot, smelly and sticky to the skin!! I’m not sure if this is considered an accessory, but I love to see guys in short fitted tennis shorts. Especially guys with nice thighs and legs.
For me: Sexy: Chest harnesses and jockstraps. Not Sexy: genital/facial piercings, leatherman gear and excessive tattoos.
Lingerie, womens’ clothing of any type, masks, hoods, costumes, gags, handcuffs, harnesses, collars, leashes, chastity devices, poppers, heavy drugs, eyebrow, nose, or lip piercings. It’s great they enhance other guys’ experiences. Just not at all for me.
Thankful that some guys list their likes for any of them in their profiles. I’ll not hit them up and will graciously say “thanks, but we’re just not interested in the same thing” if they hit me up.
All of them !
Just give me a naked body.
Some are bigger turn offs but basically all of them.
Being Honest…I like REAL COCK! Not plastic toys and various paraphernalia
Piercings and cages. Totally gross and painful. Also lingerie–no feminine stuff.
Can you please start proofreading your headlines? For fuck’s sake.
Piercings, feminine clothing, fetish wear (leather, rubber, masks, etc.)
Lingerie. No feminine stuff.
Just because I’m young and smooth … why do you want to see me in your wife’s lingerie or panties?
Also not a big fan of piercings.
Edible underwear. ‘Nuf said.
Never seen anybody wear this.
Is it still being made?
Lingerie, puppy play accessories (which will include anything else animal like). Rubber or neoprene outfits are ~ maybe yes, probably no. Purple or barbie pink dildos.
As far as masks; The dark out, bank robber style socks don’t work for me.
What happened to the styles before 2010ish that were leather with open chins (sort of gladiator-ish).
Another point I wish to add is, perhaps I’m just a horny fuk, that I look beyond the outfits that the bottoms, albeit, bi, DL or straight bottoms are wearing and concentrate on the individual’s body…As stated in a previous comment, I enjoy edible underwear because I love eating ass, clean, of course, as a means of foreplay and, although they taste stupendous, my bottoms are sexually stimulated as well…before I pond those cakes! Mind you, some fine ass bottoms look great in various accouterments–practicing my French for a return trip to Paris–yet, my lusts look only at the body… Read more »
I am turned off by women’s clothing, puppy play crap, masks, hoods, gags, handcuffs, harnesses, collars, leashes, chastity devices, drugs, tattoos, eyebrow, nose, and lip piercings. A clean, masculine man in normal attire is hard to beat.
Seems like they might have a better response if “what sex accessory turns you on”.
