Pride is still a few months away, but New York City is making sure to get a headstart as it reveals its official theme for 2020.
The tweet revealing the theme, “The Future Is…”, includes a video featuring voice from the LGBTQ community such as drag queen Dylan Thomas, gender nonconforming designer Stephon Mendoza, trans activist Ceyenne Doroshow, and Latinx body-positive model Ady del Valle. According to New York City Pride, the theme was chosen because it encompasses “identity, ethnicity, age, body types, language, and religious beliefs.” They also said it “connects our storied past, milestones, and promising future.”

Last year, Pride celebrations in New York were grander than usual as the city hosted World Pride2019, the commemoration of the 50th year of the Stonewall Uprising, and its own NYC Pride. Participating in the festivities were celebrities like Madonna, Grace Jones, Pablo Vittar, Teyana Taylor, Amara La Negra, and DJ Johnny Dynell. Cyndi Lauper, Billy Porter, and Chaka Khan also performed. Panels were also held last year, with speakers like Raquel Willis, Janet Mock, Tracey “Africa” Norman, George Takei, Trace Lysette, and Leyna Bloom.
Talking to Gay Times, campaign leader Eboni Munn said they wanted to build on last year’s “monumental” success and continue providing the community a voice.
“The success of last year’s campaign was monumental. This year’s visual identity builds off of that success by continuing to lift and elevate voices and images from the LGBTQIA+ community by the community,” Munn said. “The campaign should always be reflective of our community and the team that leads the campaign should also be reflective of LGBTQIA+ voices.”
The stories of the people and influencers featured in the video will be revealed throughout the year. This year, New York City Pride will be held from June 14 to June 28.
Hahaha… What a crock of altruistic bull shit. This is like herding cats. You can round them all up and fence them in but once the gate is open they all go their own way. It’s the same with the gay community. There will always be preferences, dislikes, racism, ageism, fat haters, skinny haters, etc., etc. The only thing any of us have in common is that we’re all weird in the eyes of the general population because we like homosexual relations. Add to that, most of the general population thinks we’re mentally defective as well. And, you know, some… Read more »
Anyone else remember when drag queens actually looked like women?
Looking at the vid, it struck me; finally, nice to see women included in various forms like men; various degrees of masculine-feminine. But having lived in NYC, it is truly, a most wonderful mosaic, period, bar-none.
Additionally, I also liked the conservative looking gay women and men as well, the iclusion of multiple ethnicities.
That pic of “Gay Pride” is not something to be proud of?
It merely symbolizes the “Mindset” and “Depiction” of what the dominate culture equivocates as “The Queer Culture.” The word “Queer” isn’t affirmative; It is pejorative.
Homosexuality isn’t queer as it is a bonifide representation of sexual orientation not a sexual aberration. It continues our appearance as inconsequential and not consequential. This type of representation is going to do us in as it travels, in parallel, with deviance and depravity.
There is more to a Homosexual Male than costume and misguided accouterments.
“There is more to a Homosexual Male than costume and misguided accouterments”. I stated something very similar about adult males prancing around in their jock straps and undergarments as being representative of how the straight community see’s the gay community when this act is forced on everyone as “natural”, and was chastised by the moderator.
Bearded Ladies, a carnival retrospective. … Well, my dick went the other way.
I laughed so hard when I read the last part haha
“…and religious beliefs.” it’ll be great to see representation by the many religious groups who are LGBTQIA+ accepting. The list is long, but that road continues to cause splintering.
