A seemingly ordinary social media post by the Burbank Police Department turned into an online sensation this week when a photo of one of its officers holding a French bulldog quickly went viral. The image, shared on February 14, was meant to show the light side of community policingβ€”an officer smiling while meeting friendly pups during a routine call for service. Yet it was the officer himself, identified by several outlets as Officer Christian Parks, who captured the internet’s attention far more than the dogs.

Within days, the post racked up hundreds of thousands of likes and thousands of comments, with many netizens playfully derailing the wholesome moment into something flirtatious and humorous. Rather than comment on the dogs, social media users flooded the thread with playful requests that Parks β€œtake them into custody”—turning a standard policing phrase into a running joke.

One of the most repeated lines was simply: β€œI committed a crime, please come arrest me.” It became a kind of rallying cry in the comments, with others riffing on the idea. β€œIs Officer Parks available for a completely professional, absolutely necessary pat-down?” one commenter quipped, blending flirtation with comedy. Another added, β€œWhat crimes do I need to commit so he can take me in? Asking for myself.”

Some users got creative, turning the scenario into absurd role-play. β€œI identify as a dog if Officer Parks wants to pick me up too,” one person wrote, while another claimed, β€œI just lost my dogs in Burbank; requesting Officer Parks’ help.” These humorous asides drew more engagement than many posts about the dogs themselves. Another commenter reads, β€œThis cop out here servin’ the people AND servin’ looks!” The comment section is a riot, so much so that someone said, β€œThis comment section has me in freaking tears.”

The light-hearted response hasn’t gone unnoticed by the department. Burbank Police embraced the moment by liking several of the funnier comments and even sharing media coverage of the viral post on their Instagram Story, set to the song My Hero by the Foo Fighters. According to some reports, they also used the surge of attention to highlight recruitment information and encourage interest in the department’s work. Read here and here for more on this story.
