Brilliant Minds — the medical drama starring Zachary Quinto as a gifted, openly gay neurologist — is returning with new episodes after a short winter break. Season 2 resumed on January 5, 2026, at 10 p.m. ET on NBC, with episodes also streaming a day after on Peacock.

Based loosely on the life and work of famed neurologist Dr. Oliver Sacks, Brilliant Minds follows Dr. Oliver Wolf, a brilliant but unconventional neurologist at Bronx General Hospital whose unique perspective, shaped by his own rare face-blindness (a condition called prosopagnosia), leads to unexpected breakthroughs in diagnosing and treating puzzling neurological and psychological conditions.

Season 2 broadens the scope of the series, blending complex medical cases with personal drama, professional politics, and emotional depth. In the midseason premiere, Wolf and his team confront a range of new medical puzzles while navigating relationships, sexuality, and the pressures of care in a demanding hospital environment.

The series also made television history, with Quinto becoming the first openly gay actor to portray a gay doctor in a lead role on primetime network television. The milestone was intentional, according to the show’s creative team.

The show’s director Michael Grassi told Gayety in a statement, “I’ve always loved medical dramas, but I imagined how much more powerful they could’ve been if they had a gay lead.” Grassi added, “With Oliver Wolf, we get to see him as a hero, a son, a mentor, and now, a romantic lead. That’s something I wish I had growing up.”

Alongside Wolf, the ensemble cast includes Tamberla Perry as Dr. Carol Pierce, Ashleigh LaThrop as Ericka Kinney, Alex MacNicoll as Dr. Van Markus, Aury Krebs as Dr. Dana Dang, and Spence Moore II as Dr. Jacob Nash, among others. New faces joining the narrative in Season 2 include recurring guest Bellamy Young as Dr. Amelia Frederick, a formidable clinical director whose presence introduces fresh conflict and ethical tension.

Personal relationships continue to play a significant role. The show has explored Wolf’s romantic life, including his relationship with fellow neurologist Dr. Josh Nichols (played by Teddy Sears), giving viewers a nuanced view of a gay protagonist balancing professional leadership with intimacy and self-discovery.

While medical storylines bring in cases like an MMA fighter with mysterious symptoms or reality show delusions challenging Wolf’s diagnostic skills, the show doesn’t shy away from examining the protagonist’s own emotional landscape — from reconciling family secrets to confronting the ways his rare condition shapes how he sees others.

For those new to the series or catching up on the latest episodes, Brilliant Minds is available on Peacock, where both Seasons 1 and 2 are streaming. Peacock serves as the streaming home for the NBC drama, with episodes typically accessible the day after they air live.
