Boston — Police are investigating a violent assault on a gay couple in the Mattapan neighborhood of Boston as a possible hate crime, authorities say. The incident occurred on the evening of September 13, when the couple—walking to a convenience store on River Street around 7:45 p.m.—said they were met with anti-gay insults by a group of men, People noted.
According to reports, after the verbal harassment, the altercation escalated. Two men “were seen swinging unidentifiable objects at the victims.” During the confrontation, one of the victims was struck in the head—allegedly with a baseball bat—and was later found lying in a parking lot, bleeding. He was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center for treatment; his condition has not yet been publicly disclosed.
The Boston Police Department’s Civil Rights Division is leading the investigation. As of now, no arrests have been made. A police spokesperson emphasized that authorities are treating the case with seriousness and asked anyone with information to contact investigators.
Community advocates expressed alarm and concern about the climate for LGBTQ+ residents. “Hate is never tolerated in Boston,” a city spokesperson said. “Our thoughts go out to the two victims, and we ask anyone with information to contact Boston Police.”
GLAD Law, a Massachusetts-based LGBTQ civil rights organization, also weighed in. “We’re just generally concerned about the hostile political moment that we’re in right now and the increased fear that many people in our community are experiencing,” said Josh Rovenger, GLAD’s legal director, to NBC Boston.
This attack comes amid growing reports of violence and intimidation targeting LGBTQ+ people nationwide. In Boston, the incident is being coded as aggravated assault and a possible hate crime, reflecting the growing priority being placed on bias-motivated violence.
Police encourage witnesses or anyone with tips to report them to Boston’s CrimeStoppers line at 1-800-494-TIPS or by texting TIP to CRIME (27463). For more information, read here and here.
It’s really sad that in 2025, we are still reading stories about such ignorance and violence that’s going toward gay people. Seems like people are getting meaner and meaner everyday. It’s really dangerous out there. I still chose to be closeted and plan on staying that way. I remember years ago, I use to say that things would be better later on when it won’t matter about a person’s sexuality. Unfortunately, we still have a long ways to go.
yo, i get the sh*t ’cause the black don’t like the white and the white don’t like the black. It’s all over not everyone is popular
yo, popularity contests are for the ‘tube not the streets!
Yeah, maybe that what we get when too many people have their faces buried in a phone looking at often times asinine media instead of focusing on the real life around them.
There is no excuse for violence. Period. There is, however, a giant need for discussion … that means listening, accepting and working together. These unfortunate/horrific events occur because of ignorance, yes, but also because of a lack of respect for diversity when it comes to beliefs/feelings about sexuality. Not just “Diversity” which has been highjacked to apply only to LGTBQ+ sexuality. There is also “Diversity” when it comes to beliefs and traditional rights about sexuality. The later was stifled as much in the past few years as the former was for decades. The media inflames the situation with one-sided reporting.… Read more »

They are examples of the hate our society is suffering from. Discussion from them would be welcome.

And with such wisdom, Pennrose located their “Pryde” gay apartment building in a nearby neighborhood, against local opposition. I wonder if they were residents of that building.
Virgil, “Taxachusetts” blue state media exploitation?
Mattapan is an absolute shit hole. Shootings occur on a bi weekly basis and assaults are a daily occurrence. They should throw a fence around it
sounds like Holyoke?
I’m kinda concerned this blog subject got only a few responses and they are mostly from Zebra, Hunter and Scratch. Is violence and hate against gays the norm? The blog subject “whether you swallow cum or not” got over 100 responses. Maybe most are tired of talking about it, knowing nothing is being done to prevent it.
Zebra totally hi-jacked this blog from the get-go. Race is definitely the only thing on his mind, when this blog had absolutely nothing to do with race. He ought to be banned.
Perhaps interestingly, lots of investigations have in recent times been centered on some of the members of the LGBTQXYZ+ community doing mass killings and assassination. Most recently in Utah.
In my travels over the decades I have noticed that gays are not immune to the defects of mentality that create criminal acts. In fact, it seems to me that lots of them are more than just a little bit “off” in the head.
