A thoughtful question from a gay man sparked a lively discussion online. His question reads: “What makes life worth living for you? How do you find worth and purpose?” The responses from gay men ranged from heartfelt to humorous, revealing how diverse and personal the search for meaning can be.
For many, the unconditional love and companionship of pets provide a constant source of joy and purpose. One gay man shared, “My dog and other pets I would say.”
Similarly, others find fulfillment in making happy memories with friends and family. “Making happy memories with my friends and family. Being healthy and loving my body. Meeting beautiful men and connecting with them. Working a job that I enjoy. Being present, grounded and thankful for being alive,” one guy explained.
Hope also plays a powerful role. “The hope of having it all one day: a (sexy) man, a career, our pets, our little family, and our own space,” another commenter revealed, showing how dreams and aspirations can drive us forward.
Living authentically is another recurring theme. Many believe in living for themselves and not for anyone else. “Livin for myself and not anyone else. Life is short. Do whatever makes you happy. And dogs. And sex and art and music. Don’t hurt people?!” shared another gay man, emphasizing the importance of personal happiness and kindness.
In addition to relationships and authenticity, passions and hobbies contribute significantly to life’s worth. “So many cool things to do. I like to read and to write, to run and cook and watch movies. I never ever have enough hours in any day to do everything I want to do,” one person noted, highlighting the joy found in everyday activities.
Of course, not all responses were serious. One humorous reply stood out: “Ph.D. in pounding twinks. I’m too hung and tall, it would be a waste,” showing that humor and sexual expression are also essential parts of finding joy, passion, and confidence in life.
Whether it’s the companionship of pets, the pursuit of dreams, or the joy of hobbies, finding purpose is a deeply personal journey. The responses from gay men online show that life’s worth often comes from a blend of relationships, personal growth, and staying true to oneself.

PISSING OFF TERRIFIED, CLOSETED REPUBLICAN MAGAS by living a happy, normal life, impervious to their disapproval and phobias.
“Now shut up you worthless, homophobic pieces of shit and suck it like the bitches you are!”
If you subscribe to the belief that God made us all and we humans are part of all, then what makes living worthwhile is living as a mindful human being, contributing and enjoying the world around you. God decided your being but the intellect free will decide your purpose… .
That’s a non-answer. The funny thing about “belief” in “god” is that no two humans agree what “god” WANTS except in a vague sense, like, “he wants us all to be saved”. Everybody has a different idea what “mindful” means, and “contributing”, and “enjoying the world”. What one person considers “mindful” or “enjoying the world”, another might consider harmful or destructive. Some people ENJOY murdering animals; some people’s enjoyment causes immense pollution or deforestation; some people’s enjoyment DEPENDS on the subjugation or oppression of others. It’s hard to believe we are all “part of all” when humanity is utterly subjugative,… Read more »
My comment began with “If you subscribe…which implies an assumption not a stated fact. hence, what i wrote is legit. thanks for the commentary nice to know someone read what was blogged.
“God” did not make this mess; but by “giving humans choice” but having or chosen greed, fed or solidified by hate-superiority.
Evil’s best allies is the nonbelievers, of evil . . . whom cannot know our Creator either.
What Makes Life Worth Living?
Being Gay has nothing to do with it.
for some, being gay is and of itself! I agree with you!
After being with my boyfriend, now husband, for 30 years and realizing we are just different people. Longing for a man to hug and hold me, laughing, lounging around in bed. The excitement of the clandestine lovers of my younger years. Nearing 60, still very much young-at-heart. Road cycling often, architectural design, YouTube videos of snow keep me going. One day, a men will want to French kiss with me again. Or, will it be a French man who will want to kiss me? Only time and luck will tell. Fearful now to live in the US, but know we… Read more »
