Every legend begins with a dream.

Netflix has given us a glimpse of their upcoming biographical drama called Selena: The Series. The show isbased on the life of Tejano music legend Selena Quintanilla-Pérez (played by Christian Serratos) and we are in awe just how The Walking Dead actress Christian Serratos looks uncannily similar to the late singer.

Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, known by the mononym Selena, was a Latin recording artist widely regarded as the Queen of Tejano music.

A beloved icon of the LGBT community, Selena was named the top-selling Latin artist of the 1990s decade by the Billboard magazine. She also won the 1994 Grammys for Best Mexican-American Album.

Unfortunately, Selena was shot and killed on March 31, 1995 by her own friend and former manager Yolanda Saldívar. She was only 23.

Selena: The Series has the blessings of Selena’s family and they are the show’s co-executive producers as well. It follows Selena’s humble beginnings in Texas with Los Dinos until her death in 1995.

Her sister, Suzette Quintanilla, said in a statement:

Selena will always have a lasting place in music history and we feel great responsibility to do justice to her memory. With this series, viewers will finally get the full history of Selena, our family, and the impact she has had on all of our lives. We are excited to partner with Campanario and Netflix to give fans a never-before-seen glimpse at our story and highlight why Selena will remain a legend for generations to come.

Selena: The Series also stars Ricardo Chavira as Abraham Quintanilla Jr., Selena’s father and manager of Selena y Los Dinos; Seidy Lopez as Marcella Quintanilla Lopez, Selena’s mother; Gabriel Chavarria as A.B. Quintanilla III, Selena’s older brother best known for playing bass guitar, producing, and writing songs for Selena y Los Dinos; Noemi Gonzalez as Suzette Quintanilla, Selena’s older sister and drummer for Selena y Los Dinos.

You can start streaming Selena: The Series on Netflix this December 4, 2020.
