Have you ever gone skinny dipping with friends, a hookup, or a boyfriend? Was it exciting, romantic, awkward, or no big deal? Some gay men love the thrill of swimming naked under the stars, while others don’t really see the appeal. Have you ever tried it yourself? Did it turn into a memorable hookup story, or was it just another swim?
For a lot of gay men online, skinny dipping is tied to freedom, attraction, and unforgettable summer memories. Whether it happens at a secluded beach, a quiet lake, or a private backyard pool, there’s something about ditching clothes and jumping into the water that feels spontaneous and exciting. Some guys associate it with romance, while others remember it as part of their sexual awakening or carefree younger years. At the same time, not everyone enjoys the experience, and many have very different boundaries around nudity and intimacy.
One gay man for instance, shared, “Being naked outdoors with a lover splashing in the water and making gay love – it’s ecstasy.”
In addition, another man connected skinny dipping to a major personal milestone. “That’s how I lost my virginity.”
But not everyone needs to sneak into lakes or beaches to enjoy it. One guy confessed, “I have a pool at my house, so yep plenty.” Having your own pool definitely changes the experience. Without worrying about strangers, getting caught, or public exposure, skinny dipping can become a relaxed and fun part of everyday life.
Cultural differences also came up in the discussion. One commenter seemed surprised that skinny dipping is still viewed as daring by some people. “How is skinny dipping not a completely normal activity? Stupefied about the anecdotal giddiness in here.” Further, he explained, “I’m Dutch btw, seems more normal in NW Europe?” Attitudes toward nudity vary a lot depending on where people grow up, and what feels shocking in one country may feel completely ordinary somewhere else.
Meanwhile, for other gay men, skinny dipping is best paired with summer nights and flirting by the water. One man shared, “Skinny dipped plenty of times. And yes, fooled around by the water. Not really while in the water (that can sometimes cause problems), full moon summer night skinny dipping is the best!”
Of course, not everyone is into it. Some gay men prefer to keep nudity private or simply don’t find skinny dipping exciting. One guy explained, “I personally don’t like it because I reserve full nudity for more private situations, but I do wear as little clothing as possible though when I swim!” While another admitted, “Never really cared for it. Did it once and just didn’t feel anything special. Will say that I do like getting in the tub with my boyfriend way more. It’s way more fun.”

Yes. We have a gay men club near Harrisburg and they have a pool where you can swim naked or dun naked on the deck. I love it.
