Netflix is expanding its lineup of competition series with What’s in the Box? —a high-energy game show hosted by Neil Patrick Harris that blends trivia, strategy, and suspense. Now streaming exclusively on Netflix, the series invites viewers to watch as teams compete for massive prizes hidden inside sealed containers without knowing exactly what they’re risking until it’s too late.
Rather than featuring a new set of participants each episode, this format follows eight pairs of contestants over the course of the season. This allows viewers to get to know the players, witness evolving alliances and rivalries, and see how strategy and luck play out across multiple challenges — a structure more akin to reality competition series than traditional episodic game shows.
The premise of What’s in the Box? is straightforward but intriguing: giant sealed containers hold high-value prizes, and teams of two must earn the chance to guess what’s inside. Contestants advance through rounds of trivia and puzzle-style challenges, competing not just to win prizes but to retain them as the game introduces twists that can shift control of boxes between teams.
Neil Patrick Harris brings his signature wit and charm to the role of host, guiding contestants through moments of triumph and heartbreak while maintaining a playful but suspenseful tone. His presence anchors the show, balancing humor with genuine tension as boxes are won, lost, or dramatically revealed.
One of the standout elements of What’s in the Box? is its diverse cast of teams, each bringing a unique dynamic to the competition. Among them are Joey and Scott, a married gay couple and business partners who are into the renovation and construction business; Mary-Ashanti and Djennane who are longtime friends and professional beauty/makeup artists; Keira and Car’dell who are both vocal instructors and close friends from Atlanta, Georgia. Then there’s the twins Erin and Danielle from Clairmont, California, who both work as bartenders; while Laith and Danielle are newlyweds. Laith is a former NFL player, and Danielle is a hair extension specialist. Former cheerleaders for the Atlanta Falcons Macy and Jasmine add athletic confidence; Luke and Leona from Texas represent a rare mother-and-son duo, Leona is a professor, and Luke is a stay-at-home father; and lastly, best friends Binh and Andrew who met over 20 years ago while running nightclubs in Miami.
The studio set, filmed in London, features dramatic lighting and oversized golden boxes that heighten suspense and spectacle. Throughout the season, teams face not only trivia questions but also strategic decisions over whether to protect their prizes, steal from others, or risk elimination.
What’s in the Box? is now available for streaming on Netflix. It aims to appeal to fans of game shows and reality competitions alike, offering a mix of lighthearted fun and spirited rivalry for the holiday streaming season.
Happy viewing!
Instead of “What’s In The Box”?, why not “What’s In The Pants”? There would be more variety and a bigger surprise?
yea i know, unzip the zipper PLEASE, honey!
…and the winner is…?
I KNOW what I want to be in MY BOX and no one is gonna STEAL it no matter WHAT they TRY!!!! 🙂 LOLOL
LOL! LOL! LOL!
Sounds like the old “Let’s Make a Deal” show. Do you want curtain #1, curtain #2, or Curtain #3…or do you want to trade it for what’s in the box. It would depend on who’s box they are talking about.
Without the fun costumes.
Neil Patrick Harris can put his meat in my box anytime he want! I would keep his manhood in my bussy and mouth. He was probably my first crush.
yo, this ain’t zebra’s words
As long as A4A allows blog users to type in any user name they wish, it’s going to continue to happen
The lady doth protest too much, methinks.
You sound really thirsty…
Now this is a pure homosexual conversation!
The comments so far do not really respond to the article about What’s in the Box? rather they revert to sophomoric comments of sexual innuendo, double entendres, and fantasies about Doogie Howser. I did watch the first few episodes of What’s in the Box?, which is like an amalgamation of all the game shows/reality competitions that have come before it (Let’s Make a Deal, Jeopardy, Family Feud, Who Wants ti be a Millionaire, Survivor, The Amazing Race, etc.) and it is all just too much, causing the game to drag on only to get worse when the loud and obnoxious and… Read more »

His performances have always been well thought out and intelligent. He stays pretty much out of the spot light. A great example of what it means to be a successful Gay man who has navigated his celebrity status from a young age in the1980s forward.
I agree.
I totally agree…as the greaat Joan Rivers once said….”OH GROW UP!”
agree with your assessment of the show which is why i wrote:, Instead of “What’s In The Box”?, why not “What’s In The Pants”? There would be more variety and a bigger surprise?
I’m waiting for a Boggle game show.
the earlier guys that posted seem like real weirdos. They turned this blog into something else. I don’t really like the show. It s too retro for my tastes. I don’t care for him as much either.
There’s a segment of Gay men that behave like teenage girls when it comes to men and sex (fine, no issue). Call them “The Tiger Beat Crowd.”
Order in the Court – Here CUM da JUDGES!!!!!!!!! 🙂 LOLOLOLOL
How about a show with NPH doing magic? I’ll pay to watch that.
He COULD make all the HOT MENS clothes DISAPPEAR!!!! 🙂 LOLOLOLOL Happy NEW YEAR GUYS 🙂 !!!!!!!!
How is this different from a storage unit auction??
I hate high-energy game shows. Bring back low-energy ones like Password. They’re still the best.
