When you chat with fellow Adam4Adam members, the first thing that comes to mind probably isn’t “hobbies.” But maybe it should be. Beyond hookups, parties, and playlists, there’s a whole other dimension to gay life that’s deeply rooted in how we unwind, create, explore, and connect with ourselves and others.
And whether you’re fresh out of a breakup, moving to a new city, or just tired of scrolling the A4A app, hobbies can be a lifeline. They’re a form of self-care, a way to channel stress, and sometimes even a means of meeting new people, especially in a world where adulting is a reality and making friends isn’t always easy. So it wasn’t surprising that one gay man’s simple question resonated with many: “What are your hobbies?” He added, “Hi everyone,
Because of some life changes, I am looking for a new hobby and new ideas. Gay bros, what are your hobbies?”
The replies came pouring in, and what they revealed was refreshing: gay men have a wide, colorful, and eclectic range of interests—some expected, some not so much.
One guy kept it classic. He shared, “Reading and taking piano lessons.” Simple, soul-nourishing hobbies that stretch both mind and muscle memory. Who doesn’t love a rainy evening with a book or a late-night melody session?
In addition, this self-described nerd celebrates geek culture without shame. He confessed, “Video Games, D&D, Warhammer miniature assembly, painting and playing the game, Board Games, Watching TV shows, Going for walks while listening to audiobooks.
As you can see above, I am a giant stereotypical nerd, and I am quite happy with that.” Strategy, creativity, and solo walks with stories in your ears? Sign us up.
Further, this guy’s list is a love letter to movement and exploration. He replied, “Hiking, Travelling, Riding Bike.” Whether it’s a local trail or a far-off city, the joy of being on the go can’t be overstated.
What about people-watching, like this guy who said, “Walking, gaming, going to the park to look at guys lol.” A little eye candy in the park never hurt anyone. Some hobbies are low-key, no-pressure, and full of pleasant distractions.
Then, of course, some are athletic, like this guy, for example, who commented, “I love Badminton and Volleyball, but if I’m at home, I like to read or play video games.” He’s found the perfect balance between active and relaxed, social and solo.
Meanwhile, playing videogames seem to be a popular choice because another gay man answered, “Videogames, anime, drawing and camping.” This blend of indoor artistry and outdoor adventure feels very Gen Z—connected to both nature and pop culture.
Then some gay men dabble in a bit of everything (yes, even hookups): “Watching movies, reading books, drawing, studying, coding, weightlifting, cooking, hooking up, writing, meditating, doing yoga, running, and learning languages.” This overachiever has enough hobbies for a small army—and we kind of love it. It’s proof that gay men are multi-dimensional, full of curiosity, and always evolving.
Having said all that, what about you, Adam4Adam blog readers?
Whether you’re sporty, artsy, bookish, or just in it for the spicy pickles and cute guys at the park, hobbies are more than just distractions—they’re how we express joy, creativity, and identity. What are your go-to hobbies? Have they changed over the years? And if you’re looking for something new, what’s stopping you? Drop a comment below and let us know what keeps you busy, balanced, and entertained.
I’m a huge soccer fan, especially the English Premier League but unfortunately it’s a hobby I have to enjoy by myself. It seems they’re aren’t many other gay or bi guys that enjoy watching sports as much as I do. Apart from sports I love reading, music, painting and DIY projects.
You’d have a sports buddy if you lived in NYC, Petite….
I love jigsaw puzzles & puzzle books…stuff to keep my mind busy.
I work on a 1/8 scale miniature ridable railroad on weekends. If I don’t get home covered in dirt and sweat before getting home, I’ve done something wrong.
A bit of a geek here. Movies, music, gaming, writing and drawing keep me busy when I’m not working.

I enjoy going to live sporting events. Mostly professional football and basketball .
I like to go for nature walking, reading about history and one of my favorites, playing solitaire!
Cross stitching while listening to music, hate today’s music love the 80’s and 90’s music.
Is it safe to say you grew up in that time period?
I have always been a nurturer. After my divorce, my Preciouses won custody of me. Tropical fish and rare tropical houseplants have been a hobby since my early teenage years. Wherever I travel here in the states, a box of houseplants that are unavailable in NYC accompany me home. Fortunately, the only water TSA allows onboard jetliners is that which contains live tropical fish. My daughter flew home to Phoenix with fish from a few of my aquaria yesterday.
I’m a reader, love documentaries, as well as movies about history, love ride my bike, love to take walks and explore, music lover, as a “foodie” I love healthy flavorful foods from around the world, I love keeping up to date on health trends. Good journalism, as I’m just a bit of an info. nerd.
From the posts so far, it looks like being Gay has no impact on guys’ hobbies. They’re the same as Straight guys.
Guess there’s no hope for me finding that “perfect” guy with a collection of GI Joe dolls each clad only in a Speedo that is the color of a stripe on the Pride flag. Or a guy with a collection of vintage, restored Harley Davidsons each painted the color of a stripe from the flag.

Hince why an odd question even ran through someone’s head to ask.
Successful social media sites poll users about that they what they’re interested in or need. Have always wondered why the Blog hasn’t asked “what are you users interested in hearing about or discussing?” Yes, there’ll be a variety, some just not viable, but there’ll also be a small number of winning “chestnuts’.
I like to read, ride my Harley and shoot trap and sporting clays.
