Ross recalled the conversation vividly. “I said, ‘Grandad, I’m gay,’ and he replied, ‘Well, can you cook?’ I said, ‘Not really.’ He laughed, ‘How do you expect to keep a man?’”

This light-hearted exchange turned into a meaningful discussion about life lessons his grandfather had learned from gay men in 1950s Harlem. Ross explained, “He told me about gay men in 1950s Harlem who hosted dinners, dressed sharp, and had beautiful homes. He said they taught him so much about how to carry himself.”

The post resonated with many of Ross’s followers, with one asking if he now hosts his own dinners. Ross replied enthusiastically, “Absolutely! I’m 33; this happened when I was 19, but yes, I cook and I’m happily engaged.” Ross also shared photos of his grandfather, whom he described as “such a cool man and very honorable,” alongside a picture of himself and his fiancé embracing by the ocean.

To further illustrate his growth, Ross posted a video showcasing his culinary skills, featuring an impressive spread of delicious dishes. His followers praised not only his cooking but also the way he honors his grandfather’s legacy.

Ross also reflected on a separate coming-out experience involving his mother when he was 16. After being outed via MySpace, his mother initially struggled with the revelation. However, the icebreaker came during a shopping trip when she told him, “I don’t care that you’re gay, but if you’re going to be gay, be the best gay,” as she bought him a pair of $875 boots.
