Canadian actor Elliot Page, who rose to fame as the lead character in the film Juno (2007, Jason Reitman), came out as transgender through a statement he released on his social media accounts. He said:
Hi friends, I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they and my name is Elliot. I feel lucky to be writing this. To be here. To have arrived at this place in my life.
I feel overwhelming gratitude for the incredible people who have supported me along this journey. I can’t begin to express how remarkable it feels to finally love who I am enough to pursue my authentic self. I’ve been endlessly inspired by so many in the trans community. Thank you for your courage, your generosity and ceaselessly working to make this world a more inclusive and compassionate place. I will offer whatever support I can and continue to strive for a more loving and equal society.
In his post, he also highlighted the plight of the transgender community particularly the epidemic of violence against transgender people. Read his statement in full below:

The 33-year-old star—who originally hails from Halifax, Nova Scotia—is an Academy Award nominee best-known for his works in the films Inception (2010), Tallulah (2016), The Last Stand (2006), Days of Future Past (2014), and in the ongoing Netflix series called The Umbrella Academy.
Page married New York dance teacher Emma Portner in 2018.
Stellar move. Very impressed with you as a human being,
Ah, ha, I kinda thought there was something about her. Good for her thought, nothin’ like freeing yourself.
This is tough…My personal opinion, just because you’re a masculine woman or a fem man, does not make you trans.
lol it’s not about your opinion here. Do you think he wants your opinion on HIS identity?
I wonder what you would say if your parents would say ” not because you are feminine that you should be gay and suck dicks, just stick to women”
I’m gay and I’m no where near feminine. The fact that you had to go there just because there are a couple guys who are is a bit insulting for the gay guys like myself to be insinuated that all gay guys are feminine or act feminine. I realize this is an old post but please use better choices of words in case others stumbles across this post. And the guy who you clap back to made a valid point and I’ll just leave it at that
