Today—October 10, 2024—marks World Mental Health Day, and this year’s theme, “It is Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace,” calls attention to the importance of mental well-being in professional setting. Since its founding in 1948, the World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH) has worked tirelessly to ensure that mental health is treated with the same importance as physical health, including in the workplace.
Workplace stress can lead to a range of mental health issues like burnout, anxiety, and depression. By implementing strategies such as flexible working hours, mental health support services, and promoting an open-door policy for mental health discussions, employers can create a healthier and more productive environment. When employees feel valued and supported, everyone benefits. Workers are less likely to suffer from mental health issues, and the organization benefits from higher productivity and employee satisfaction while workers themselves can live quality life.
Mental health is a critical issue for the LGBTQ+ community, especially in professional setting. Many LGBTQ+ individuals face unique challenges, including discrimination, bullying, and lack of acceptance, which can severely impact their mental well-being. For Adam4Adam readers and the broader LGBTQ+ community, World Mental Health Day serves as a vital reminder of the need for workplaces that not only tolerate diversity but actively support mental health for all employees. Inclusive mental health policies ensure that every employee, regardless of their sexual orientation or identity, feels safe and respected.
Employers should also promote mental health awareness and offer resources, encourage staff to take breaks, use mental health days, and ask for help when needed. This creates a culture of openness and reduces the stigma around mental health in the workplace.
Ultimately, World Mental Health Day 2024 urges all of us to recognize the importance of a mentally healthy work environment. For LGBTQ+ communities, including many Adam4Adam readers, this can be particularly important given the higher rates of stress and mental health challenges. Whether you are an employer or an employee, use this day as a reminder to take care of your mental health and encourage others to do the same. Now is the time to put mental well-being at the forefront, and foster workplaces that support growth both professionally and personally.
I know this is going to be unpopular but I’m going to say it anyway. I subscribe to the notion that the medical, food processing, USDA, FDA, and other industrial complexes have, whether they realized it or not, greatly contributed to many of the mental health and other problems we have today. RFK has noted this as have a number of others. Hell, I have lived enough decades to have watched it come upon us all like a slow motion train wreck. But don’t take my word for it. As much as many of you probably hate Tucker Carlson, you… Read more »
Trump has changed since i voted for him in 2015 & Harris was chosen because she is not white but light & her husband is the color of snow. neither are truly preferred so as always, it comes down to choosing the lesser of the two evils
Well that didn’t seem lowkey racist at all.
Completely off track: I’m voting for her, because she is, sane, she is not a “white nationalist . . . and so is Liz Cheney voting for her, so what don’t you get? America, has never, will never, have a “one Pres., fits all” aight; too many ” them and those” ethnically, sexually, and economic speaking in terms of “elitism” of which, we clearly are not . . . I’m to intelligent, “woke” self-educated and “lived experienced” 64yrs., throughout three regions of our country; to be voting against my own self well-being and rights as an American. I LOVE, being… Read more »
relax, I am neither voting for Trump nor Harris! Condoleezza Rice I would vote for in a heartbeat!
She’s pretty smart. I could see myself voting for her if our political ideas kind of meshed but I don’t know where she is on alot of things.
Funny you should mention her; I’ve been wondering where she is, what she would say about what’s left of her party of Republicans. I liked her and the late Colin Powell, in 2002, it was like they were heading the party, I thought to myself, wow, this is different, considering that is. And as we know “for reasons of morality” Colin Powell, more less, left the party, I had to applaud him on that and now, his daughter, with Kamala, what a turn of events! I would tell you and all Reps., you should vote, it’s not as intelligent as… Read more »
Sorry. She may be “sane” but she has no understanding of Economics or Global Affairs. She’s proven that. Her opponent gave us a solid economy and a Global community that wasn’t about to destroy itself.
If, that were true, she wouldn’t be where is today and poised for winning the Presidency, not sorry, oh, and she’s also no fucking narcissist either.
Your friend is saying Harris has no understanding of Economics or Global affairs. I wonder did all of our past Presidents had expert understanding of Economics or Global affairs on day one, when they were elected or are the standards different for a certain segment of population? I always thought Presidents forms an administration to help with certain aspects of government.
We know, these old tropes, don’t we?
Don’t let these guys on here cause you to lose hope. I have faith in the American voters. Obama won two terms based on fair and clear elections. We have more diversity in Governors, Senators, Congressmen, Mayors, etc. than ever before. Racism exist, but we always overcome.
Yep, 64 years and counting, thanks babe, it’s just boring.
Mental health conditions is something that affect us all, one way or another. I’m not going to veer to much from the importance of mental health, but I’m voting for Harris only because she’s running against Trump. If Tom Brady was running against Trump, I would vote for Brady. If Donald Duck ran against Trump, I would vote for Donald Duck. My biggest dislike about Trump is that he is a racist. I would never in my lifetime vote for a known racist!!!!
This week Former President Obama called on “Black men to vote for Harris”. Oh, that’s not racist. Anyone calling on White men to vote for Trump would be racist, but to call for Blacks to vote for Harris isn’t????
President Obama calling on black men to vote for Harris isn’t racist at all because she’s not a racist. Anyone that vote for a racist person like Trump, has issues in regard to race. How can a racist President of our United States be fair to everyone if he’s a racist. His cabinet and administration would be all like him, except for a few tokens like Ben Carson and Nicki Hailey. I wouldn’t have voted for Obama in 2008 if he was a known racist. I could care less about his policies or his ideas to make a better economy.… Read more »
. . . Isn’t that what trump has been doing?
agreed!
Additionally, that’s really rich, coming from someone who’s biracial. Or could it be, you have some ambivalence, about your own bi-racial identity? Can’t decide?
If they can see it, then your black, I grew-up in Minnesota, you can trust that.
They see White & Black. They deal with it, I don’t.
^^^Smart guy.^^^ Zebra is unencumbered by what has been and is no more nor has it been for quite a long time. Some others just can’t let it go.
Oh, sure you do, I read, you know what you’ve said in previous threads on here, you’re conflicted.
But since YOU were born of better circumstances, than rape, which is why my mother-great grands were biracial, that, makes you the best of both worlds.
Beauty comes in every conceivable color. CHEERS!
I knew he was nuts, from the time of his first campaign, ‘clearly’ very narcissist, people are just things to use for him “supply.” He was NEVER that articulate either, actually. But about the food in this country, increasingly, yeah, I completely agree as I’ve been reading, watching documentaries for decades regarding what has happened to our food basket. I buy raw goods just about 95% of the time, I’m a hell of a cook, personally, I hunt down foods with no additives, excess sugars and salts, etc., as possible, the white shit (no offense) foods aren’t in my home,… Read more »
It’s not mentioned in the article but reading books or visual novels can greatly help with anxiety and depression. Whenever I feel down or like I have the weight of the world on my shoulders, reading takes my mind off the real world and helps me relax. Also video games like The Sims 2, 3, and 4 along side with other simulation games also tends to help me a lot. If you’re not a reader but a gamer, I highly recommend playing life simulation games to escape from reality even if it’s for a little while.
