Hey, guys! Here is a first look at Matt Bomer’s upcoming miniseries with Jonathan Bailey:
Titled Fellow Travelers, the series is set in the ’50s at the height of McCarthyism.
Just a quick background, McCarthyism “is the term describing a period of intense anti-Communist suspicion in the United States which began during the start of the Cold War, that lasted roughly from the late 1940s to the mid to late 1950s.” Also known as the Second Red Scare, McCarthyism got its name from Republican Senator Joseph McCarthy, of Wisconsin, who claimed in his 1950 speech that hundreds of communists had infiltrated the government.
“Lavender scare” would then ensue. This term refers to “a moral panic” about gay people in the United States government that resulted in the mass firing from government service of everyone who was suspected to be gay.
Check out below the official blurb of the series:
The brand-new drama series based on the novel by Thomas Mallon, Fellow Travelers is an epic love story and political thriller, chronicling the romance of two very different men who meet in McCarthy-era Washington. Hawkins Fuller, played by Matt Bomer, maintains a financially rewarding, behind-the scenes career in politics. Hawkins avoids emotional entanglements – until he meets Tim Laughlin, played by Jonathan Bailey, a young man brimming with idealism and religious faith. Over the course of four decades, follow five main characters as they cross paths through the Vietnam War protests of the 1960s, the drug-fueled disco hedonism of the 1970s, and the AIDS crisis of the 1980s, while facing obstacles in the world and in themselves.

Bomer previously starred in films and TV shows like Papi Chulo (2018, John Butler), Magic Mike (2012, Soderbergh), and White Collar (2009, Eastin & Romero), etc. He also starred as Donald in The Boys in the Band, a Netflix film adaptation directed by Joe Mantello in 2020 with Jim Parsons, Zachary Quinto, Andrew Rannells, and Charlie Carver to name a few.
Meanwhile, Jonathan Bailey is best known for his role as Lord Anthony Bridgerton in the Bridgerton series. The 35-year-old English actor is openly gay.
Fellow Travelers, which is set to debut on Showtime this fall, stars Andy Milne, Jane Moffat, Erin Neufer, and Mike Taylor to name a few. You can watch it via the Paramount+ app as well.
Happy viewing!
Can’t wait for the series this Fall… It’s always great to see (as much as possible of) Matt Bomer! And if you think that looks good you should also check out the new American opera based on “Fellow Travelers”… music by Gregory Spears setting a libretto by Greg Pierce…. beautiful, passionate music!
A series I will pass on. Immersing myself into hours of oppression of Gays 60 years ago is not positive for my mental or social health. I certainly do understand the bigotry and hate present in the McCarthy Era which affected individuals regardless of the gender, sexuality, political beliefs, or religious beliefs, of course. Much like how the “Woke Era” affects society today. “Woke” originally meant “open minded.” It quickly morphed to mean “being alert to prejudice toward Blacks.” And more quickly evolved to “being alert to prejudice of any anyone in terms of gender, sexuality, or race.” And soon… Read more »
It is the aftermath of creating momentary vocabulary which gets metaphorized into variations of
relating and then, peripheral themes until each and all become blended into nothingness!
If, you’re stupid enough, sure, yeah, what you said = “Spinning”, “Gaslighting”, “Jedi mind trick,” lmao!
People really eat that kind of psychobabble up don’t they, incorrigible, impressionable.
I was just watching a movie about the not-too-distant future where absolute nonsensible idiots are running the world.
Meet ‘pushback’ comrade #WokeVET
Just like Hitler, he didn’t want the world to know what was happening, either did he? If, you’re not wrong, then no worries, right, what’s to hide, then?
It so simple, criminals of inhumanity will do anything to hide their crimes against humanity. All ‘they’ did, was to spin it, lie, to be more succinct.
We saw on TV in black/white, while pushing out Tonka trucks around the house, what was happening in the south during the 60’s, then, the rest of America and the world became “WOKE.”
You’re almost right, except, no one is oppressing conservatives . . . we’re going to oppress ‘their’ oppression, of all the aforementioned though, see . . . go ahead, marinate on that for a while, need be, so that you get it, ok. . .
Now, if, their freedoms, hinge on ‘our’ rights to the exact same freedoms they have to humanitarianism/1st class citizenship, then war; why on earth, as an American, like they
should we except the abuse that 2nd citizenship has proven?
What happens when men, Straights or Whites try to hold a “Pride” event? What happens when a celebrity of any kind expresses Social views in any way less than positive for or supportive of Woke dogma? Main Stream Media is on-the-spot reporting how Pro-Woke leaders quickly energize!” their troops to respond and rally in strong protest to fight and squelch this “sexist/homophobic/racist activity!” “Exact same freedoms?’ Not even remotely so, regardless of how Wokers try spin it. There’s no “equal” in “equality” until everyone is included, and not dis-cluded because of race, political beliefs, spiritual beliefs, gender or level of… Read more »
