When it comes to sex, everyone has their personal preferences — things that turn them on, and things that immediately kill the vibe. But what happens when your partner shows up with a toy, outfit, or accessory that makes you go, “Uh… absolutely not”?

One gay man online recently sparked this conversation after asking: “What sex accessories would you say are the biggest turn off?” He shared his own hard limit, writing: “I’m going to have to go with sounding rods hands down. It’s totally OK if you’re into them but the idea of putting a metal rod in my urethra scares the hell out of me.”

This honest (and kind of hilarious) confession opened the floodgates for other gay men to share their biggest bedroom turn offs — and the answers were wildly relatable.

So what sex accessories do gay men hate the most? Here’s what they said:

“Meth,” one guy replied. Some users were quick to say their biggest turn-off wasn’t a sex toy — it was drug use during sex, especially meth. No kink shaming here, but for many, meth is an instant dealbreaker.

In addition, several guys mentioned that penis piercings are a hard pass. “Not really an accessory but any dick piercings.” The idea of metal anywhere near delicate parts made some cringe — and for others, it’s simply not visually appealing.

Meanwhile, although some men are into lingerie play, others said seeing a man in women’s underwear instantly kills the mood for them. “Women’s underwear.” It’s a reminder that not every kink is for everyone—and that’s perfectly okay.

Then there’s “Those creepy leather dog masks.” Pup play isn’t for everyone. A few admitted that leather dog masks feel more awkward than arousing — making them a top turn-off.

Some turn-offs are instant, no matter how open-minded we try to be. For one gay man, it’s all about the accessories—or, in this case, having too many of them: “Strings, thongs, etc. I know people find them attractive, but to each his own… Also piercings on the penis… I cringe so hard at the thought of the process of getting them that I can’t even distract my mind when I see them on others….” Clearly, what’s sexy to one guy can be a total deal-breaker for another, especially when it comes to what’s worn—or pierced—down below.

When it comes to personal turn-offs, sometimes it’s about certain kinks that just don’t click. One gay man said, “For me personally I absolutely hate cock cages.” Some love them, some hate them. Cock cages showed up more than once in the responses — with a few guys admitting the idea makes them feel anxious or turned off.

Lastly, others shared a much simpler view on what really matters to them in a partner. One guy put it beautifully: “For me it’s pretty much everything. I just need the man.” And then there are the minimalists — guys who don’t care for toys, gear, or costumes at all. Just a man, naked, is enough.
