Sam Smith’s highly anticipated fourth studio album with Capitol Records Gloria is here, guys! It’s been over two years since the release of their third album Love Goes so I’m pretty sure you are all excited.
You can stream the entire album through Spotify. See below:
Gloria features a number of collaborations with various artists and songwriters the likes of Jimmy Napes, Stargate, Ilya Salmanzadeh, German singer Kim Petras, Jamaican musician Koffee, Canadian singer Jessie Reyez, and English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, to name a few.
Of course, I took the time to listen, and here are my favorite tracks from the album:
Unholy – is the lead single of Gloria. It was released on 22 September 2022 and is a collaboration with Kim Petras. This catchy song made waves online and has spurred a viral dance trend thanks to the clip released in advance, weeks before its official launch, in fact. Unholy reached number one in several countries such as Australia, Canada, the UK, New Zealand, and the US.
Smith said of this particular track: “‘Unholy’ was made in Jamaica and was one of the most glorious creative moments I’ve ever had as an artist. I’ve never had so much fun making a record.”
They added, “It was so cathartic and freeing to experiment like this and throw out the rule book. It has also been an honour to work with Kim and get to witness her brilliance. This song is about liberating oneself from the clutches of others’ secrets…”
Lose You – In this song, Smith sings: You say you’re packing your bags/This isn’t what I thought forever would be/You’re walking out so casually/How could you give up on us like that?
Like most of us, our heart’s been broken at least once; which is why I love this song, because it’s so relatable.
Who We Love – is perhaps my most favorite piece in this album. I particularly love the chorus:
It’s not wrong
To want the world for someone
It’s not a feeling you can run from
‘Cause we love who we love
So let go
You don’t know better than your heart knows
Whether they’re here or long gone
Yeah, we love who we love
Yeah, we love who we love
Isn’t it a lovely song? Smith was interviewed by ET Canada about their collaboration with Sheeran, and they revealed, “It was beautiful. We’ve been friends for a long time and we’ve always wanted to work on a piece of music together. And this happened just so naturally.”
Listen to Sam Smith below as they talk about Who We Love, how it was – working with Ed Sheeran, and the album in general, among many other things.
What about you, guys? What are your favorite songs in the album?
Sam Smith’s world tour for Gloria will kick off in the UK in London’s O2 Arena. They will also travel and perform across Europe, North America, Australia, and New Zealand. You may view the schedule of their tour here. Meanwhile, you can purchase Gloria here.
Happy listening!
Another “Clone” and he looks like a male version of
“Ultra Nate”?
And,
A bad “Bleach Job,” too!
Is any “Masculinity” to be found, either?
He’s become a parody
Become?
Or is?
It’s called “Self-Deprecation.”
The Bleach Job & the Earring!
Self-defecation?
Padre:
There is a difference between Self-deprecation and Defecation:
the former is the mocking of one’s self and the latter is the removal of waste>
However, both self-deprecation and defecation are examples of waste!
a George Michael for the new generation, honey ♥
George Michael had talent and a bit of class until the drugs and alcohol changed him.
No need to insult the dead by comparing Sam Smith to George Michael!
The word is “release,” unless it’s a piece of crap, in which case, “drop” is perfectly appropriate.
“Drop” Isn’t that something you do by accident? Like ‘drop your phone”? Or “drop you wallet”?
Webster has picked up this definition for “Drop” meaning to release a podcast or music or video to the public.” Cambridge has yet to, however.
Old dogs . . .
. . . We’ve been through this already, drop=release, it’s slang in their profession, you aren’t going to change that, man, get over it, you won’t be correcting them if that’s what you think.
Sam again delivers everything fans adore! A consistent, guaranteed style of music with a message that life is difficult and often disappointing, especially when it comes to love.
Give the masses what it wants to hear and wants to see…
blinded by…
self depreciation and depreciation?
I don’t seek “a message that life is difficult and often disappointing”. I seek an album or single that doesn’t sound like its produced by A.I. I’ll give it a chance. .
I don’t get this guy’s appeal ? Chubby pink body(yuk) that he’s ALWAYS showing too much of and mediocre voice to boot!!!!
Haha! I totally agree. Plus now he (she?, they?, them? It?) Is doing some devil worshipping satanic BS on stage at the Grammys.
I was a bit shocked by how he appeared in the interview with ET Canada.
