Retired American figure skater and medalist Adam Rippon is now married to his Finnish fiancé Jussi-Pekka “JP” Kajaala. The couple tied the knot on New Year’s Eve, and their only guest was their dog, a 4-month-old Pitbull mix named Tony.
Rippon took to social media to announce their marriage. “SURPRISE WE ARE MARRIED,” he said on his announcement post. “One afternoon JP and I looked at each other and said the very classic *romantic* phrase of ‘let’s just go do it now’. So we did. It was just the three of us and it was perfect 12/31/21”
“I think everybody knew that we were going to do it and I think nobody knew if we were going to give them a heads up or not. And I guess we didn’t even know if we were giving ourselves a heads up,” Rippon, 32, told People in an exclusive interview. “Listen, we’re unpredictable.”
Further, he added:
We always wanted to do something simple and just the two of us. And so, we were looking at different options of what we could do and so obviously when you do that, the next best thing that you can do is you reach out to [California marriage officiant] Maria and you ask Maria: ‘When is her next availability for a wedding?’ And she goes, ‘I have availability this week, but I also have something today.’ And so then I said, ‘Listen, Maria, we’re on our way.’ We’re going to be there for the one o’clock appointment in Encino, California, the happiest place on earth.’
Their wedding was a low-key affair, but according to Rippon, it was what they’ve always wanted. “It was like what you would get from the dollar store if you knew you had a wedding in five minutes,” Rippon said, “but it was perfect.”
Rippon is the “first openly gay man to compete at a Winter Game.” The couple got engaged in February of last year then Kajaala moved to Los Angeles with Rippon last December after years of being in a long-distance relationship. Rippon met Kajaala while he was competing in Helsinki in 2018.

Congratulations, Adam and JP!
Another “Much Ado About Nothing”
Such disclosures are no longer revelatory as they once were?
Everyone joins in, makes an announcement and 24 hours later, yesterday’s headlines becomes today’s garbage.
And,
being a Figure Skater, who professes his Gayness, is no more shocking than a Male Ballerina, who professes his Gayness.
Today, we tout our sexual orientation, revel in its immediacy…perhaps, we’ll marry and tomorrow, perhaps, we will suffer the slings and arrows of divorce…?
The good news is that as studies are trying to make sense out of the data for single sex marriages, divorces are approaching the same rate as heterosexual. It’s a difficult road to navigate through due to the different types of people being married and the different states rights over many years. Good for them at taking the sudden plunge all of a sudden
But yes at the end of the day why is this even newsworthy?
Because it gives both the Press & Gay Community Andy Warhol’s definition of “15 minutes of fame.”
Garbage in & Garbage out… .
Always good to hear of gay men taking full advantage of the ability that gay rights; hard won has afforded us.
who cares what this far-left nutjob does?
Well so wonderful for them! An extremely private ceremony held in an exclusive location officiated by a sought for officiant followed by a highly public announcement! Yin Yang wishes to this ever so happy couple!
As usual…you see it as it is!
A perfect example of a “Oxymoron”!
Cheer’s to the newleyweds and may they celeebrate ever long on finding “the one”/ NOW off the subject matter. yet still at play. I hear bashing and ridicule between sidequeens! I get it i do, Im just curious is i`t ok to suffer a life die then come back only to suffer again. “HYPOTHEhetically” Then you go to pass this time and also by the way you lived you life with disgusting deformities and sickness. So, on the third passing you dont just die this time you get a Survey on how was the passings what did you learn yada, yada,.byou… Read more »
