The way things look now, the coronavirus pandemic isn’t going to slow down anytime soon. According to the World Health Organization situation report dated April 7, there have been an additional 68,766 new confirmed new cases of COVID-19, bringing the global total to 1,279,722 cases. The coronavirus has caused the death of 72,614 people.
The coronavirus pandemic has also radically changed the way we live, with the world practically grinding to a halt as nationwide lockdowns have resulted in the closure of schools, bars, restaurants, and other places where people congregate and socialize.
In an essay published on the CBC website, Canadian academic and environmental activist David Suzuki said the widespread changes brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic should be taken as an opportunity to transform our own lives.
Suzuki recalled how the HIV-AIDS crisis of the 80s and 90s also fundamentally changed human behavior — with safe sex and clean needles becoming commonplace. While the crisis was terrifying at the time, it is now something that humanity has managed to control to an extent.
According to him, this new pandemic is an opportunity to re-examine our consumption and question whether all the stuff we acquire actually brings us happiness.
He wondered if humanity would be able to realize that coexistence with nature is essential to our survival, especially since the global lockdown has brought about cleaner air in China and the return of fish to the canals of Venice. Or would the end of the pandemic instead cause an even more fierce return to the relentless consumption before COVID-19? Would we end up even worse than before?
Adam4Adam blog readers, how has the coronavirus pandemic changed you now? How will it change the way yo live moving forward? We would love to hear about it. Share your thoughts and plans in the comment section below.
I think post covid 19 world will provide higher cleaner practices in all the major stores and restaurants. Yes things are bad now, and the economy is already tanking worldwide, but hopefully this is a lesson learned to be less selfish and treat people better. This is a shared planet we live in and depends on everybody to do there part to defeat this madness. This also showcases how bad certain politicians really are and are very selfish pricks. They only care about their money only. they can hide in there fancy houses with free medical, while the rest of… Read more »
We are going to reap a massive psychological toll from the widespread sheltering in place that arguably was not necessary everywhere. But putting that aside, people with S.A,D. will fall into a deep depression because of being “locked” up at home. The full-on panic reaction and the non-stop catastrophizing about COVID 19 is already demonstrating widespread panic psychosis disorder which is producing traumatic stress. In turn, after this cherade is over, people will be suffering from PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). Others will have full on rage reactions over politicans who bankrupted them while the politicians still had their six-figure incomes,… Read more »
I completely agree with you.
I have an open marriage with my husband, mostly because it became rocky a few years ago and we keep trying… So we are spending a lot of time together at home. Feels like a stranger sometimes. On top of that I miss my married side guy I have seen for over 3.5 years 3 times a week…. miss him terribly. He can’t cam or talk for obvious reasons and it makes me miss him even more. I can’t take much more of this.
Well, now I don’t trust the WHO or China to tell the truth about anything. I trust the politicians less than I did before. And I dang sure don’t believe everything I read on A4A or see or hear in the mass media. To me, this is just about as concerning as HIV was when it was discovered. Even if one does recover from it there is no telling if or what kind of sequelae may await in the future. Even safe sex as we know it today can’t seem to protect against CV19. So, until they have gotten a… Read more »
It’s made me feel more lonely. It was hard enough trying to find a date before this, now it is impossible.
same. but im not looking for dates tho. you shouldn’t as well
NOPE I’ve been a quiet loner..
what the media refuses to tell people is that not ALL who test positive die of the virus. why the media doesn’t tell us of the many people who have tested positive that are now doing well, is a mystery to me. it all seems like someone “in charge” wants to continue the scare tactic on the public.
I dont know what media you watch, fox? do they still think it’s a hoax over there?
I’ve heard of plenty of people recovering…in fact many more so than dying…but the fact remains, many people are still dying, much more than the flu and those I know who have contracted COVID 19 became extremely ill. Many with pneumonia and some hospitalized…I never knew that with the seasonal flew….Don’t minimize this crisis by saying many people recover
yes of course….95% of people dying or 70 and up. But the people who propagate the disease are younger, especially kids, and most time they are asymptomatic
You don’t see it because “Orange Man BAD”. The media are complicit with the TDS crowd in the desire to destroy the morale and economy in attempt to have him removed in the next election and to condition people into thinking the “new” socialism is best for everybody.
Aha! Now EVERYBODY’S getting just a teensy taste of what we went through in the early ’80s…but without the waiting so long to die.
Totally lost respect for the government. Looking toward being an expat. Police state over a fucking flu
it’s not a flu dude. There’s like 20,000 deaths in one month in USA.
no more than die any way – and haven’t you wondered why all of a sudden there are no deaths more heart attacks????
no more die ? NYC yesterday 800. I dont know where you get your information.
Where you thinking of moving too? Curious as I have thought of way before this
Remember to burn your passport and renounce your US citizenship to wherever you chose to relocate.
Agree. I’d rather take my chances with the virus than put up with the police state crap. I didn’t serve in the U.S. Military so that some tin-pot-dictator Democrat governor could wreck the economy and suspend the U.S. Constitution. In other states there is resistance to the little Mussolini’s from sheriffs, legislatures, and pastors. In the dumbed-down-democrat-dungeon of Delaware the sheeple would probably line up to kiss the governor’s arse.
Conservativevet: Nice to read another of your tongue-in-cheek-posts! Glad to read that you are still with us and ever feisty, too… . I am well and enjoying the solitude as the sidewalks, streets, roadways, parks, fields and tracks are all deserted so I can roam unmolested. My town is quiet…even the deer have imposed a self-quarantine; perhaps, they have come to understand that Corona is more dangerous than the Hunting Season? I take breakfast and then proceed to walk without interruptions of any kind. I sport a rather nice looking mask…quite fashionable but not girly. The “Agent Orange” routine continues… Read more »
A few weeks ago, as the horror and reality of this situation was settling in, I sat on my back deck one late evening smoking a joint and thinking those “deep thoughts” one thinks when high – and god knows, I needed to get high. I thought back over the past 40-plus years since I sucked my first cock and flip-fucked with my first guy, and how the onslaught of HIV/AIDS scared me away during mid ’80s leaving me to give up gay sex altogether, then marry my wife, start a family, then by the mid-90s finding a safe and… Read more »
To be honest, nothing has changed for me. I still goto work each day, I still do everything I was doing before this Covid-19 thing happened. I do tend to think most people have gone way overboard on their reaction. Look at the population of the USA, look at the total death rate of the regular seasonal flu and then look at the death rate of COVID-19, the COVID-19 rate is far far lower.
So, if you are doing everything you were doing before, you are putting yourself and everyone else at risk. You must listen to the really fake Fox crap. We have had 24,000 deaths from coved-19 in just the past 3-4 weeks. That’s about as many as we usually get in an entire year with influenza. Coved-19 is 20 to 30 times more deadly than the flu. And that’s with most of the country shut down and most people staying home. If not for that, the death toll would be in the millions by the end of the year. I’ve been… Read more »
Nothing really changed, I enjoy my solitude.
The way we socialized has already changed. More contact with friends and family thru services such has Zoom has become more common. But what I think that will really change is the emphasis of how the healthcare system works. The 1918 Spanish Flu brought in the need for socialized medicine or some form of consolidating medical needs. I think this current pandemic is causing us to look again at how our healthcare system works. Like in 1918 the elites where getting better care than the poor, we are seeing some areas having access to test and medical care a little… Read more »
Bill Gates is behind this. He has a Ted talk where he suggests the population needs to be lessened with the help of vaccines. He predicted this viral epidemic in 2015. Problem, Reaction, Solution. They create the problem (Virus) wait for the reaction (panic and fear) and offer the solution (Vaccine). The vaccine will be filled with toxic substances and adjuvants. I read they wont let society return to normal until everyone is vaccinated or they can’t return to normal society…this is forced vaccination. Everyone needs to take vitamin C, supplement with Zinc and possibly add colloidal silver. You must… Read more »
It’s possible, that you read something in a much older thread, where I had given some hist., about the medium of movies created in this country be the Jewish community. “What has happen=hist., what is happening=presently, what’s likely to happen=future” by way of plays/Broadway leading to the movies we’re used to watching. Brilliant way of communication. I’ve been asking/telling people about that movie from the 70’s “Soylent Green” starring Charleston Heston and Edward G. Robinson; over population, mass-homelessness, hunger-government food rations, not givin’ the rest of it away if you’ve not seen it, though. I have many of the movies… Read more »
How has this pandemic changed me: what I found irksome was being told that “wearing something over your nose-mouth, would do you no good.” My initial thought: it’s a pathogen that’s ‘airborne’ the very reason to keep a ‘physical distance’ because it’s also air-borne as well as being on surfaces, later (I’m guessing their common sense kicked-in) they revised that. I had been wearing facial protection anyway since pretty much the beginning. ‘It’s’ too much about winning, folks; who’s right and who’s wrong, too much about “winning at any and all costs”, is coming to fruition, “reaping what you sow.”… Read more »
This new virus has seemed to have gone undiscovered before Dec. 2019, It was most likely around for a long time just a rapid viral change in DNA structure.
It’s definitely put things into perspective, having to stay inside only to notice what elements of your lifestyle are truly necessary and what’s just been taking up space. I realised that even though I’m able to perform my job online, it’s not necessarily a great thing for me. Being at home, I get perhaps TOO comfortable, more easily distracted and therefore have to bump up my concentration in order to fulfill my responsibilities without sacrificing quality. Having to transform my living space from a home to an office to a gym and then back to a home again, while using… Read more »
I think South Park has it right, I have a 98% chance of living, there will be only 98% of us left. COVID is an exercise in control through fear and kills less people than the flu approximately 0.02% of the population. Dr Fauci is a con man and evil and was the main reason for HIV spreading so quickly and of course Bill and Malinda gates who masquerade around acting like they care about people. I haven’t changed anything, we never went this bonkers over the flu, I choose to listen to virologists who really know, like a noble… Read more »
