While the Spice Girls certainly had a devoted gay fanbase at the peak of their career, there probably was an equally devoted group of lesbian fans who probably wished that a little something more than friendship existed between the girls.
And while this isn’t exactly a declaration of love, Spice Girls member Mel Brown’s (Scary Spice) recent revelation that she and bandmate Geri Halliwell Horner (Ginger Spice) had hooked up before must have stirred up old feelings among the group’s lesbian fanbase.
Brown made the revelation during an interview for Piers Morgan’s ITV show Life Stories. Mel Chisholm (Sporty Spice), who’s had her share of lesbian rumors in the past, was in the audience during the interview.
The revelation came after Morgan pressed Brown on a reported “dabble” with Horner. Brown initially said Horner had “great boobs,” but went into more detail when asked further.
“She is going to hate me for this because she is all posh in her country house and her husband, but it’s a fact,” Brown revealed. “It just happened and we just giggled at it and that was it. We were best friends. It just happened.”
Brown also revealed that she kissed the other Spice Girls members after she got a tongue piercing, but that it wasn’t anything sexual.
According to The Sun, Brown ended up calling Horner after the interview to apologize in case it ended up upsetting Horner’s husband. A source also tells The Sun that there was a fear that the revelation might endanger the upcoming Spice Girls reunion tour.
“The tour is just two months away they don’t want anything jeopardizing it, but there were real fears this would upset Geri’s husband and cause serious issues,” the source revealed to The Sun.
